Which TPG do you use, and why do you use it?

I am thinking of slabbing coins, not aiming to sell them, for my personal collection. Which TPG is the one you prefer, thinking of price (cost to slab), quality of the service, resale value if I decide to sell, and most reliable grading.

Since I am not really good on deciding on one of the major TPGs, I need your help.

I was going to ask the same. I'm thinking about trying anacs due to the fact they are only 20 miles away from me and i hate sending coins in the mail.

I use NGC. NGC seems to have more consistent grading than PCGS. Even though PCGS is ALOT closer to where I live and wouldn't take as long on orders, I've always been an NGC guy.

I don't submit coins for grading, but I prefer NGC holders because I collect mostly toned coins and have found that the contrast of the toning vs. the white insert of the NGC holder is more attractive than the clear plastic of PCGS.

I've submitted to both and I have settled on NGC. PCGS was body bagging my toned copper and NGC seems to respect it more and gives it an honest grade. My friends and I have never had a problem at NGC. I also like that NGC has allowed both services into their Registry program where PCGS has not. NGC graders are also not able to deal in coins while they are employed by NGC which is fair, as that would be just like printing money. Overall I see an elitist mentality with PCGS and its fan base and I try not to support that. Somehow they have sold a "better than" package to the collecting public but it isn't necessarily so. If you have a great coin, it will say so in any holder. I'm not saying PCGS is the devil, as I'm sure they deserve respect for their numismatic contributions, and I will buy coins in PCGS holders, but I let others do the bleeding for me. JMO

I use all 3. ANACS has the widest range of grading and slabbing error/variety coins, and some of mine are not in the CPG, but are CONECA or other. NGC is what I use for many of my coins. I find that with coppers they are usually 1 pt. higher on MS coins. A NGC MS-65RD would 80% of the time be a PCGS MS-64RD. I also don't care for NGC "VP-001" type of nonstandard indication of varieties. PCGS is where I send all others as they are easier to sell.

Thanks guys. Looking at the websites, and using your advice, I'll use NGC. Good idea, because when looking at the slab design, I think that NGC has PCGS beat.

I like the newer style NGC slab because it lets you see the edge, which is cool on something like a Saint, bust half, $10 indian ect.

I want to try sending some in myself, and I found ANACS more friendlier than the others to submit. You don't need a membership, and there prices are not to crazy!
They are also local to me - well within 30-45 minutes! I'm of course assuming I can drop and pick them up?

Anyone know what there physical address is? All I got is a P.O. Box...

I guess it,s a personal prefrence but you will sell your coins sooner or later and a PCGS holdered
Coin will alway,s bring more money on a alike coin versus another TPG

That would be great Adam if you PM that! Thank You

By the sounds of it, you don't have to deal with specific days on which to submit in person through ANACS? I know PCGS allows it only on certain days or something to that order from what I've read?

I buy coins in any form, but I prefer to use PCGS as a client when submitting. I prefer the look of the coin in their slabs, their grading standards, and the superior price their coins tend to fetch in the market when bought/sold in comparison to the alternatives.

Man I love it when Doug picks sentence out and corrects it... Like the spelling and grammar check for coins!

When I submit my coins I use NGC because:
    - it's generally considered one of the top two TPG's.
    - I'm an ANA member so I don't have to join NGC (pay the membership fee).
    - I have NGC Registry Sets so I have to have coins slabbed by NGC or PCGS.

When I buy coins already slabbed I go for either NGC or PCGS coins so they're ready to go into my NGC Registry Sets.
I don't want to pay to have coins crossed over from ANACS, ICG, SEGS, PCI, etc.

    My 2 cents

To sell I use Anacs.you can't beat there 10/for $10.00.and have them ck for cleaning for my keepers

My keeper coins go to Ngc or Pcgs

I won't use CAC for anything or buy a CAC tagged coin.
    for 2 reason the owner
    &
2nd the price of the CAC sticker coin is 40% more than the same coin with out the sticker

I only use A.N.A.C.S.. Reason being they are in my opinion the Best or near to it.They also have a Population Report which keeps all Coins they Grade in a Data Base and it allows you to acesss with a Free Membership .However N.G.C. and P.C.G.C are POWERHOUSES in their own right. However you choose i feel good telling you these 3 will not steer you wrong..Good Luck and please keep us up to date..

Depends on the coin and if you want any special designation (like FB, FBL FS). NGC is tougher on special designations.

This is ONLY true for modern coins and there are even some exceptions here.

Typically, once a common collector signs up with a specific grading company, that grading company becomes their favorite for whatever reason since signing up ain't cheap.
Most, cannot afford sustaining those fee's over multiple years.

Me? I use PCGS but then I only collect Modern Coins. However, after 7 years, I am beginning to question my reasoning. But then, I am also heavily invested in PCGS slabs so I'm kinda stuck.
