These are not baked guys! I know exactly how he did it, and it takes no chemistry background.
When the coin is dipped in this solution it will tone rather quickly! Say five seconds, but the best way to AT these uglies is to dilute the solution so you can control the reds and blues. To get the 60's look you just yank the coin in and out of the solution...
I was going to lay out the ingredients, but the last thing we need is a bunch hosers flooding the market...
BTW: I deal with many of the chems in the gun blueing world...

I agree with you, but I'd like to see them tackle the lovely imported counterfeits from China first. But, it would probably cut into their profits.

I am going to post a dissenting opinion about this seller. I love that he is on E-Bay peddling his AT wares. Sometimes when you read these forums, you are left with the idea that re-creating natural rainbow toning on coins is a rather easy process that is achievable by anybody and that discerning the difference between AT & NT is almost impossible. This seller shows us what the average AT coin doctor is capable of producing; easily identifiable AT crap!

The fact is that very few people are able to artificially tone coins that are market acceptable in the eyes of the major TPG's. If you search E-Bay for rainbow toning, you will find hundreds of AT coins just like this one from many different sellers. Seeing AT crap like this helps us appreciate the beauty, value, and rarity of natural rainbow toning.

    Hooray for Chicky!

Well, I got an ebay email back from Chicky.,...as per below.Thing is she may be right,,except i dont buy coins that are fked up like the crap she's selling.

Hello and thanks for taking the time to give us your opinion. However, there are a lot of people who find our products not only beautiful but irresistable. That's why we have over 3000 customers to date.

Keep in mind that beauty is only in the eye of the beholder. I am sure that many of the coins in your personal collection are garbage, but I am glad you like them.

I'm with you, Dollar! With the success of Franklin Mint, Danbury Mint, Bradford Exchange, I believe there probably ARE that many customers purchasing her coins.

patination is a natural even toning of the coin, some of the absurd rainbow colouration that we sometimes see is at best ugly and at worst disgusting. when a coin is artificially toned such as this one it is destryoing any chance of a natural patination in the future.

I agree too. She's not breaking any laws. People colorize quarters and ASEs and get away with it.

It should be discerning cause of the ease these coins are toned in the bathroom sink!
Even coin roll toning with clad is not hard to do, but it might be beyond the scope of that Ebay AT'er...The whole AT Clad deal is more alchemy than chemistry...

Are you claiming that it is easy to AT coins and have them pass muster with the TPG's as market acceptable?

Maybe Doug will enlighten us with Chicky's obvious AT method?! Heat, Chemicals, combination of both, box with gasses pumped in etc., etc., etc. ;)
