I knew what you meant, but I just had to take advantage of it. In 2004, my Mom and I attended a pool tournament at the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood. We had dinner with another couple at the only restaurant in the place other than the food court, and the bill was $550. Their cheapest rooms were $250/night except Friday & Saturday which were $350/night. I hope the Seminoles have overcome their greed. Chris
I figured you did knowing your gambling history. I don't blame the Seminoles, they are just taking advantage of a financial situation created by the Florida government. Without competing casinos, they can charge whatever they want, and people will pay it because they have no other options. BTW, did I ever tell you I was a pretty decent pool player? I was a consistent 6 ball run in 9 ball. I used to hustle people in the arcades on the Ocean City boardwalk when I was a teenager.
No, you never mentioned it. Are you referring to OC, NJ or OC, MD? If you make it to FUN one year, maybe we can get together with Shane and go to Backstreet Billiards (I think that's the name) and play some. Chris
Hey paul, If I ever get to Ac or you here, we should go play some billards. As a Teenager I grew up in Fast Eddie's ( Felson ) pool hall in queens, new york ., where the " Hustler was filmed in part ) . I also did the tournament circuit a few years and eventually was matched with Mosconi in Saratoga Springs , New York. Yeah , I beat him . Won $2,500.00 Cash and a two-piece cue made of Mother of Pearl. Texas Slim was another match , which I lost . Don't know how well I'd play today . Hung up that cue and life many many moons ago.
Walter Tevis wrote "The Hustler", and he based it loosely on the life of his longtime friend "Fast" Eddie Parker. Eddie and I became friends when we met at a tournament on South Padre Island, TX in 1999. The following year at the same tournament, I had just gotten him to autograph two cue balls for my collection, I had to go play a tournament match and a half hour later, he was dead from a heart attack. What year did you play Willie? I played him four exhibition straight pool matches in 1964 when I was 16. I played for 54 years, but I haven't played too much lately because I developed an intention tremor in my stroke hand. Chris
Chris , that was approximately the same period as I played him. I was employed by NYRA back than, I was an " Exercise boy " for one of the Leading Trainers of the Day " Hirsch Jacobs " and in Saratoga at the time. Not to steal this thread any further , But I haven't held a cue for almost 20 years now. Back to Lehigh's thread ......
Ocean City, New Jersey. I have never been to the one in MD. I would love to come to the FUN show next year, but I'm not playing you guys unless you give me a handicap or keep the stakes low.
Haha . I probably still can manage a smooth stroke , it's walking around the table that might do me in .
Well that is one thing you won't have to worry about. I have always maintained a policy that I never gamble with friends. Nope! We'll just play pool and drink beer. By the way, it would be a real honor to meet you in person. Chris
I suppose I'll say $1800, but I think I'm in the same boat as rlm, I'm not too sure I am looking at every aspect. I must be missing something.
It occurs to me that I did not put a time limit on the contest. The contest will end at midnight tonight. Whomever was the closest will win the prizes!
Hey Lehigh did you ever live in MD, maybe in the mid 2000's? If we ccan guess again my second guess is $4625 (not including what you originally brought)
Thanks for the contest. I really have mixed thoughts as to what your winnings are. At first I thought maybe $1800. Then after reading your post again and seeing that you won a total of $900 on your last hand, I thought ok I got it! it's $2200. Wrong. You must have given a large tip and of course the casino kept there %. I will go with my original thought. $1800. Thats my final answer. I am anxious to see the final answer. The answer is bugging the heck out of me. Thanks again.
