OK, picked up a string of 5o's to late 80's proof sets. Lots of 60's and 70's cameos, I know some aren't worth the price of getting them slabbed, but what denom and year if any are there premiums for cameos in those sets? No franklin cameos but some are mirror like, lots of cameo kennedys and some lincolns and jeffersons. save me a little time searching fleabay if you can! THANKS!

The question is are they really cameos ? Cameos are tough to come by for anything minted before 1973. But there are some. But prior to that date the mint didn't care if the coins came out cameo or not, so most were not.

Then you you have to decide if the frost is thick enough and consistent enough to qualify for the cameo designation. Any breaks in the frost on either side and the coin won't get it.

Post some pics and we'll try and help ya out.

thanks, I will try to do that, most of the nicer cameos are in the md 70's which makes sense if pre 73 are harder to get. problem is the earlier ones are all still in the mint cello and I was trying to get some pics because I think I have a couple of doubled dies and the pics even with the microscope don't come out so hot through the cello. Also harder to tell if there are flaws through the cello. Got a couple of nice toned jeffersons, blue and gold might snap a pic of those for lehigh to look at. Mostly just having fun going through all of them, felt like a kid going through a jar of old wheat cents dad brough home.

yea, that's better, also, the 72 looks like the center of the head is not frosted but that is actually a shadow the frosting goes across it. I think one of the jeffersons and roosies are cameo too but I need to take a pic straight on to be able to see it right. Thanks!

Thje 68 & 69 Kennedy's look nice, but I'm not sure if the 69 would cameo. Maybe it's just the lighting.

Can't really tell from those pics, but compare the '68 half to the '69 half - see the difference ? The '68 might make it but I doubt the '69 would. The '72, I can't say at all.

Yea, gotta get some better pics, my shadow makes some of them look incompletely frosted. Doesn't appear to be too much value in these unless they hit 68 cam, so probably not worth sending in.

Remember that both sides of the coin need to be cameo or deep cameo to get the designations.
