Got these today, they are blazing red with luster that just isn't captured in the images. The 1897 is proof-like. How about some grades and values? I think I paid a fair price, but I would like to hear what others think they are worth. Thanks!
I am a complete novice but I would grade the '97 at ms63 and the 1903 at ms60... again no one take my word for it been studying the Indians for about a week!
I'm no expert either but I would agree with Soaringeagle on this one, but it's hard to tell from these pictures the luster, if the 87 is blazing red i might go with a MS64 grade, but pictures for me are much harder to look at than having the actual coin in hand..
I just can't seem to capture luster or the red on copper and I have tried everything. It is so frustrating. I think I have pushed my camera to its limits. It may be time to purchase a new one. My android phone captures color better then my camera lol.
You must be out your mind... The first one is an AU58 to MS 60 and looks to have been cleaned at one time. The bottom looks MS63rb.
There is no way either of these were cleaned. I know it's hard to tell from the pictures. I have seen enough cleaned ones to know these were not. Also, how can you say AU? Point out were you think this is anything less than MS. Anyway, I paid $50 for both, so I definitely got a sweet deal.
The color is off on the 1st coin, you can tell by looking in the middle of the reverse as it is shows signs of a cleaning. The top one is not original. Send it off to PCGS and see what they say.
Like I said. I didn't capture the color at all. They are in no way "off" in color in hand. Oh well. Maybe someday I can get a better camera.
Since you paid $50 for both invest in the PCGS holder, and let us know the results. At $50 someone got the short end of the deal.
Nah - save your money if you like them the way they are. Personally I think both are AU with just a touch of wear, but it is really hard to say with the pictures the way they are. I can see what tdec is saying on the reverse of the first coin, but can't say for sure it was cleaned. It could just be the pictures.
markh, Grading from photos is extremely difficult and never 100% accurate. I could give a truly accurate grade if I had it in my hand. Tom
ROFL... I agree with you on the "You must be out your mind" but not on the grade. I actually think it's the other way around. MS-61 for the 1897 and AU/Cleaned for the 1903.
