I had a customer walk in with this piece this morning. These are SUPER hard to find like this. It looks like these pieces were bonded at first and then over time have separated. I have both pieces. This is a retained struck through fragment. The struck copper fragment is scarce but the 2 pieces together is very rare. I am in the process of removing the tape residue that was holding it in place when I bought it and you can see in the pics. I wanted to share. Enjoy

No way, that is really neat. Has any coin similar to this appeared on the market before?

Yeah, They come around from time to time. They are scarce to find like this.

that's very cool! I've never seen one with the strike through fragment. I've only seen it like this as a lamination error.

Retained strike-throughs are awesome. Hope you make a nice profit off it, I'm not even sure I'd sell it.

May I ask how expensive something like that would be?

One of the error guys might correct me but I would bet that that small struck fragment is worth $50-$100 especially being an offmetal fragment, and the struck through nickel is worth $10-$20 alone. I don't really know together.

O yeah! That be one of my dreams, LOL. Really nice! Looks like something that should stay (or sell) together tho, has a neat short story.

I think its worth $200. The fragment is likely part of a penny planchet that broke off.

Id say its worth way over $200 as a set. Individually not so much but error prices have been sort of crazy lately and together they'll go for over $400, probably more, in my opinion.

I would definitely pay $200 for it and I'm a tightwad. It really needs to be slabbed to maximize value IMO.

But you can't play with it in a slab.
