These are quite interesting and I have to say that before this post I had no idea what a short snorter was. Great pieces of history ! From Wiki : A short snorter is a banknote inscribed by people traveling together on an aircraft. The tradition was started by Alaskan Bush flyers in the 1920s and spread through the military and commercial aviation.[1][2] During World War II short snorters were signed by flight crews and conveyed good luck to soldiers crossing the Atlantic.[3] Friends would take the local currency and sign each others bills creating a "keepsake of your buddy's signatures".[4]
Interesting! In the neighborhood I used to live in "short snorter" meant something completely different. Suffice it to say that everyone who knew the "short snorter" would hide all belongings from him. Nice notes!! ahem, I mean snorters! I really like the two bottom ones!!
Heard of the tradition, never knew that's what it's called. The bush pilots crashed very often in the hazardous Alaskan wilderness, and so they signed it, and when they crashed and died (not if, but when), they would be remembered by their friends.
For you ANA guys, there was an article in the Numismatist on short snorters about two years ago. An excellent write up it was. Prior to that I'd never heard of them either.....
