Hello,I would like your thoughts on this coin please. The coin is not in that good of shape, but it is a key date. I can see most of the date on the obverse.I can make out the _860 The reverse is in much better shape with a very visible O mint mark. I hope my pictures will help.
there isnt very many key dates for half dimes. that is a common date in AG3/F2 and looks cleaned/scratched? might get a dollar or 2 over silver for it (3-5) but thats about it. also i wouldnt bother dipping it.
1860-O is not a key date in the half dimes, it's a common date. You're thinking of the dimes where it IS a key date.
1860-O dime-- listed in the Redbook under "Variety 4"-- mintage of only 40,000, starts out at $325 in my 2009 edition. 1860-O half dime-- relatively common, more than a million issued. I have one myself. Even though it's not worth much, I like it because it was issued by a Southern mint just before the Civil War, and it ended up being the last half dime that the New Orleans Mint would ever produce.
I know this question isn't that relevant to this discussion, but how many of these half dimes have survived undamaged in G4 or better?
To answer your question, A LOT, I have quite a few half dimes that are in really good condition. I wish I could post them up. I feel any seated Liberty dimes are going to be even more collectible later on than they are now
I just adore half dimes! I think the reason why is that they are so cute and small. Also I like them because they are made of silver. Finally I like them because they are the seated Liberty which is a design that I find extremely attractive.
