This seller has me completely confused. He is running an auction for a 1950-D Jefferson Nickel NGC MS67 5FS (cert #1835133-001) for $4,795 which is essentially PCGS Price Guide. The auction ends in less than 24 hours.

    1950-D Jefferson Nickel NGC MS67 5FS $4,795

So then I keep looking and I find this listing for the exact same coin ending 7 days from now. The big difference is that he is selling the coin for $2,495.

    1950-D Jefferson Nickel NGC MS67 5FS $2,495

So the guy lists a coin that he already has listed at a $2,300 discount and even the second listing is way overpriced. What the hell is he doing. Is this a trick to get people to think they are getting a deal or does he just have no idea how to price the coin?

FWIW, that is against eBay rules

He has over 3,000 listings so I am assuming that he meant to end the current auction when he started the new one, but why would he offer a $2,300 discount?

I am guessing you are correct. The $4,795 has been listed since 7/11/10 or at least I assume it was 2010 since they do not list the year.

I did not read his ME page, but I wouldn't buy one of his coins with your money.

IMO > That is exactly what it is... trying to create a preception that the second coin is a super deal.... I've seen this hundreds of times on the 'bay.... and one reason I rarely even look at BIN's, which is where a lot of these "price advertising" auctions occur. Sad thing is,,, it works. < IMO

I admire his strategy, but would not drop it so low under the first price. Is he trawling for someone who thinks he made a mistake and then would jump on the deal? I like the 1950 PCGS has listed at $10,500 in MS 67 FS. Try and find one.

one of them is a buy it now and the other is an auction. I have a feeling that ebay wouldn't let him send the listing to auction since it was almost over when he listed the auction and either ebay wouldn't let him end the listing early because it was almost over or he simply forgot to end the buy it now listing before listing the auction. Personally, I think $2000 in an obscene price to start an auction.
