Any one plan on going? This will be my first time attending the show and if anyone is going I would love to meet some of my fellow CTer's -Russ
Im almost 32 and have lived near the long beach area all my life and have yet to attend, but this thursday looks like I will finally be going. Looking forward to it.
Maybe we could get all the CT members that are going to meet up for dinner or something so we can finally meet and have some good conversation. -Russ
I'll be going but just on Friday at least that's the plan for now. Depending on what I find or don't find I may or may not go back on Saturday.
Be sure to check out my 1908-S Indian Head Cent grading set which will be on display with the collectors exhibits!!
I read in one of the local Long Beach papers that there is supposed to be an exhibit that includes a 6 pound gold nugget!!! Would love to see that!!
I am looking for the unusual PCGS slabbed Lincoln 1909 VDB - Shield Labels Plus Grades Woodies Toners Circulated grades I already have all the MS Grades It's a shot in the dark to ask anyone who is reading this... that is going to be there - to grab them for me, however if I never ask, it will certainly not happen. Thanks for considering!!!!
About to head off to the show for the first time. Most likely might post a write up of my experience. Looking forward to it!
Just got back from Long Beach. Attendance seemed typical of the first day. For the first time in over a year, the registration line was short, unlike the last few times where we had to wait 15+ minutes. There were a number of empty booths. The dealers I talked to said it was because a lot of East Coast dealers were delayed by the bad weather back East. Spent most of my time looking for half cents. Saw the usual EAC dealers: Doug Bird, Tom Reynolds, Shawn Yancy, Chris McCawley and Steve Ellsworth (Butternut). Greg Hannigan had a booth, but was always away from it when I stopped by. The offerings at the Heritage Auction seemed lean. There didn't appear to be many eye-poppers when previewing early copper and bust halves. But that's why you go to look in person. One example from the Goldberg/Holmes IV auction was lot 494. Everybody who looked at the actual coin was blown away by the color which just didn't look that great in the printed catalog or on the Goldberg website. My quest for half cents was successful: 1802/0 C-2 in VG-10; 1805 C-3 in F-15+; and a 1808/7 C-2 in VF-25. I've attached pictures taken with my scanner (1802/0 on top, 1808/7 on bottom). Please ignore any color shifts and the fact that the images are too dark (I plan to take good photos with a real camera someday). All-in-all a good show.
Was planning to go on Friday but due to unforseen circumstances I could not go that day and went on Saturday. I was kind of hoping this would not be the case but never go on the last day. Probably a quarter of the dealers were not there. Booths were empty/unmanned and some dealers started leaving around noon. I was there for a few hours and I don't think I saw anyone at the ANA booth and this is the organization that is supposed to be "leading" our hobby. Also some of the coins I wanted to buy were sold out. No big deal as they are modern coins but was hoping to save some bucks on shipping charges. On the upsides I got to try out my iPad at the show. I had my wishlist on in and the greysheet as well. I also was able to easily type the coins I bought, who I bought them from, and for how much. This let me easily update my coin inventory program when I got home. Whereas before I had all paper and was kind of pain in the butt to carrry and write on.
Finally got some better pictures. I really like the 1805 with the obverse bulge (so much so that I changed my avatar).
