I recently received four Canadian coins back from NGC. I hope you like them as much as I do. The first coin is a 1950 dime which has some really attractive & colorful toning. As usual, it is proving difficult for me to accurately capture the toning in a photo. Prior to being inside the NGC MS64 slab, it was in an ICCS MS63 slab.
The second coin is a 1942 Canadian 5-cent piece. This is a one-year type coin issued when Nickel metal was needed for the war effort. This is made of Tombac which is a brass alloy containing copper & zinc. According to my catalogs, it is something like a $10 coin in UNC and the value goes ballistic to a few hundred dollars for a gem coin. This one is now in an NGC MS64 holder.
The third coin is a pleasant 1917 Canadian Cent in MS64RB. Canada made about 12 million of these bronze large cents in 1917. Yesterday I bought a 1907H which looks to be in AU condition. The 1907H has a low mintage of 800,000 but there are apparently many high grade examples available.
The fourth coin is a flashy 1943C Newfoundland silver 5-cent. It has the look of an MS65 or better. The NGC opinion is MS65. This is another war-era coin & they only made about 350,000 of these half-dimes. Please post some of your Canadian coins & thanks for letting me share.
These are very nice! I really like NF 5 cent, very nice color. I collect Canadian coins also. I won't bore you with posting any of mine, as none of them are in a slab. I am close to completing my Candian nickel set, just missing that darn 1925 and a couple straglers.
sorry but i just do not like heavily toned coins, if a coin is worth collecting i would prefer it to be either uncirculated and bright or circulated with an even patina. the other coins look nice though.
I hope that you will someday post your nickel collection. I have been assembling a type set of Canada nickels. I need the 1943 (also made of Tombec) and I need a couple of the modern Elizabeth II coins from about 1990 onwards.
Beautiful coins, I like the toning on the dime. I don't have anything slabbed, the only certified coin I have is a Canadian 1964 XWL nickel (ICCS MS-60).
would that be the victory coin made of tombac? i have seen a couple lately and will keep an eye out for one for you.
My personal favorite is when a bright silver coin remains bright & picks up a golden peripheral tone (from being in a holder). It is at that point that I would like the toning to stop
