I know a lot of you wouldn't approve of restrikes. But I've been looking for a bashlow restrike for a few months on ebay and I haven't been happy with the quality of the raw ones or the prices of the slabbed ones. On a hunch a searched "confederate" and this baby popped up. The seller did not have "bashlow" in the title, so normally I would of missed. It was only up for a few hours. I am confident if I waited for bidding to end so I could of possibly saved $50, someone else would of hit the "buy it now" button. It is the silver one, so it isn't true to the original, but it is 10x as rare. Looks untouched also. Heritage has these for no less than $300, so I think I did good. No? http://tinyurl.com/4aswh7u
I love how the canceled and rusted dies make the coin so ... well... bumpy ...for a lack of a better word. If I'm not mistaken this will the most expensive coin to date I do not plan to flip. This is long term collection.
I don't believe either one. I'm fairly sure these were just copied dies. I don't believe the original dies are in existence, so you couldn't make transfer dies either.
http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1208747 Apparently restrikes from old copied dies. I suppose better than new copied dies. The confederate cent restrikes are struck from direct transfer dies.
Just won this one (copper) in an online auction. These are the auction pictures. I think I also got a good deal for $11.
Gbroke, I am assuming from your photos that you mean too thin. You might be interested in this article. Most do not differentiate on thickness. http://www.coinbooks.org/esylum_v10n18a15.html http://www.coinbooks.org/club_nbs_esylum_v13n19.html#article11 Jim
