Grading coins from pics contest Round 1 So just to clarify Round 1 begins as soon as Pictures are posted. The round will end on Wed Feb 2ND 7pm Pacific time. Or if everyone has their grades posted before then, I will end the round and move on to the next. Don't forget No Editing Posts. If you edit your post it will be the same as missing the grade by 5 Since Bahabully is helping me with the scoring, but still wanted to participate, I am not letting him know the grades ahead of time, nor is he in the running for any of the prizes. Please give me a day or so after each round to get the scores up and post the next batch of pics. I am holding the contest so that people who are fairly new to online viewing of coins can learn, as well as so that the more experienced can practice for those late night eBay purchases. Please post the grades you assign each coin in order of the pics posted and a brief description would be nice so that people with less experience can learn from those with more experience. If we have an issue where people feel others are just waiting till everyone else posts and copying their grades we may alter the way grades are submitted. In the event of a tie I may have a tie breaker or draw names, we will cross that bridge when and if we come to it. OK first two coins are in PCGS slabs and third is NGC.
Coin #1: Lot o' chatter around Liberty's face and the field directly in front of her. Reverse: Die crack going through "States of America"? PCGS MS-63 Coin #2: Looks well struck. Seein' some chatter above the dome on the reverse but I suspect that it's on the holder. PCGS MS-66 Coin #3: NGC MS-64
Oh shoot! I was thinking about that too, wasn't sure if we were supposed to call out special label notations/designations what have you... bigjpst???
No.. any special designations FS, FT, FB, are not going to be counted for or against. But posting them when you feel them appropriate may be helpful to those learning.:thumb:
#1 MS62 nice die cracks one rev and a 7/8 tail feathers #2 MS66FS is that 4 in 40 doubled? #3 MS66 I can see this contest is going to have many different types of coins.
I think it should help those who already guessed it prior to this response..it's like having the "Easy" button but changing it to the "I Win" Button
greenmamba, first or many contests...just read the first post it say's what his plans are. Good luck with the grading you'll lern alot.
1878 $1 MS 60 1940 .05 MS 65 1956 .10 MS 64 Can we assume there will be no coins which grade authentic (without a number)?
It may get a bit repetitive, but I think I threw in some curve balls and Long Beach is next week so I may add to the variety.
