If you had 500 kennedy proof halves and wanted them all graded and were willing to accept any grade, would you use NGC or PCGS? Costs per coin grading Input please.
Not sure of the exact cost of grading when it comes to coins, but i do know you would do Better on the resale end going with PCGS
Well PCGS has the 60% optional rule. Is the minimum cost with NGC still with moderns like 14 each or is there a lower price?
If the coins are from the past decade or so, you would likely have a better chance of getting a 70 from NGC. However, I would go with PCGS as a personal preference. TC
NGC does have a bulk submissioin rate. I know it is lower than $14, but I'm not sure exactly how much. I'd call their Customer Service for the rates, 800-642-2646. Chris
That's true where NGC is concerned, but there are dealers I know from the forums who would probably submit them. Chris
Because of the differences in grading standards, there's a better than even chance they would be graded higher with NGC. Because of the difference in standards an MS65 with NGC would be equal to a PCGS MS64 for example. I would bet that if you were to divide your Kennedy's in half, sending one half to NGC and the other to PCGS, NGC would grade higher. It's not a good thing or a bad thing, just a difference in grading companies.
PCGS is who I would go with - I just like them better. I think for the coins I collect PCGS is a little better, but overall both are about the same. Just my opinion.
not exactly related to the question, it is harder to get cameo grades as both the front and back need to be cameo. I think years back if the front was cameo you got a cameo grade. PCGS seems harsh on grading these days, but there are people that manage to get a grade up after resubmitting the coins several times. Technology will make this even more difficult in the future as companies like pcgs will fingerprint the coin and have it in their database. I feel that PCGS has an edge up when it comes to how most people feel about a grade, but there are those ngc die hards also. Economic times are hard and if you have volume both companies will work with you on pricing.
