    A) I do not have the piece in hand, so...
    B) I can only go by what I have experienced, and,
    C) it is suspect because of previous pieces I have experienced in hand, and
    D) it does not seem correct to me, based on the photos/images.

    That's all I've got.

    Do you rule out intentional doctoring, as opposed to a counterfeit piece?

    Capped die 1879. Better date. Vf 35 or on a generous day xf 40

    I don’t see anything suspicious. Which part of the coin looks „doctored“ to you?
