I just received a coin that I purchased from HA and as soon as I opened the packaged I noticed that there is a crack along the obverse side of the slab. the way it was packaged, I have to "assume" it happened before it was shipped too. Question, should I/ can I return the coin? Will HA accept the coin back? Other options(i.e. will NGC reslab it)? It doesnt bother me that it has a crack though it may bother someone else once I try to sell it down the road so I rather try to get it resolved now then later. thanks Mark
If it were me I think I would suck it up and sent the coin to NGC to be reholdered. They charge a very nominal fee to do that.
Not sure about Heritage, but I won a coin off TT last year that arrived with a cracked holder. I called customer service, and they had it re-holdered for me at PCGS at no charge plus paid all shipping charges both ways. I would call Heritage. TC
Ditto!! i have found heritage to be top notch when it comes to taking care of stuff like this! just give them a call
And if the crack is not large where the coin can be removed it's only like $5 bucks to have it reholdered.
Mark, you might ask (PM) Dave from this thread about how HA handled the issue he had recently with a slab: Are these scratches on a PF70 ASE acceptable? http://www.cointalk.com/t149178/ Above all, if they are not packing items for shipping correctly they need to be made aware of the fact that such items are arriving broken. You do not have to accept the item broken if it was not described that way, nor eat the reholdering fees. By all means call HA and discuss it with them. No one on CT can do a thing for you about it unfortunately, apart for advise you to call HA.
I appreciate your responses and will definitely give HA a call tomorrow and see what can be done. P.S. Krispy you said you guys could not do a thing for me...but you are wrong, you guys helped give me the info I needed to help get this resolved.. TY!
Yep. If you (or a friend) is going to a major show, NGC does on-site grading. Give it to 'em, and they should return it next day. That way, you don't have to pay shipping or wait around. The next really major show in your area is the Central States show in Chicago.
Doesnt NGC have minimums you can submit though? I don't think you can just submit one coin to be re-holdered. I've received damaged slabs before. It's frustrating. Don't know how people are so hard on them.
Actually I spoke with Scott today from Heritage who was very polite and helpful stating that I need to return the damage slab making note of why I am returning it and give them my info, i.e. address, customer ID number etc.. and they will have it reslabbed for me.
Somehow I missed this thread yesterday, but calling Heritage would have been what I recommended. I would have been surprised if Heritage would not have taken care of it.
I wanted to say it was a pleasant experience w/ HA. I sent it off a day after the original thread, once HA received it they notified me via email, then again once they sent it off to NGC, once received back and shipment of the item....received the coin today 3 days after they sent the last email. Great Service!
Good to hear! Anytime I have ever heard of or had any issues myself with Heritage whatsoever they have bent over backwards to make it right.
I've heard lots of "bad service" reports about TT and HA. Sounds like they're quite sloppy, or is this exaggerated.
