Grading from Pics Contest rules Contest is open to Cointalk member with minimum 20 posts All interested contestants must post in this thread the phrase “You can’t grade coins from pictures but I can” before Midnight Thursday January 27th. I plan to start the contest Friday evening Jan 28th I will post pictures of 3 coins per round for 10 rounds Each round will last a maximum of 5 days, but if all contestants have submitted grades for all coins in the round before the 5 days I will move to the next round sooner. Each person will be allowed to submit one grade for each coin per round Grades given will be compared to grade given by TPG and points off grades will be averaged The 3 people who average the closest to TPG grade will win a prize Any posts edited will be the same as missing the grade by 5 points. worst score will be dropped after 15 coins and on the last round Any person who has reached an average score of 7 points off will be eliminated. Any person who does not submit grades for all coins in each round, in time alloted will be eliminated There will be 5 prizes given First place: 1974 S Silver Proof 69Dcam Eisenhower Dollar PCGS Second place: 10 Won Korean Banknote and 1923 5 million mark Reichsbahn note Third place: 1 roll BU 2009 Lincoln cent Log Cabin reverse All coins will be either PCGS or NGC graded The intent of this contest is for people to have fun and hopefully help some practice/learn grading from pictures. The rules may not be perfect, the pictures may not be perfect. Please take it for what it is. "You can't grade coins from pictures but I can" ...'t even grade them reliably in-hand. So I could sure use some practice. My personal goal will be to hit within 7 points on at least one coin on at least half of the rounds.
You can’t grade coins from pictures but I can! (NOT) You -may- want to consider noting NGC or PCGs, because it seems many people on this forum believe NGC grades marginally higher in the 65 and higher grades. Just a suggestion, but I heed your statement "Take it for what it is." Thanks for the opportunity, thisll be fun
