That would fit real well in my almost complete set of rainbow toned silver washies, replacing my 66*, I'll go $375 but think that might be on the high side as that year produced many really beautiful toners.
$630. Lehigh is the winner. The market price for this coin was certainly influenced, IMO, by those with registry fever (not me). I know that perhaps this price may not represent good value over other alternatives, but something about this one really struck my fancy. Also, while I don't know about the availability of this particular date in this condition, there were not any mint sets yet established during the war years.
Lehigh must have had an evening filled with carousing and inebriation. That's what comes with living the Vegas high life!
I got crushed, lost $1000 in 30 minutes. Here is the next coin. An SLQ purchased from Island Coins in April of 2008. Numismedia Wholesale is $720.
Love the value of the "full except for the head" strike, Lehigh, and the coin's a looker too. That said, and IMHO, the color is good but not great (a bit streaky/grainy), and the series doesn't typically have the strongest toning premiums to begin with. Now, to price the coin. But it's in a holder that always makes my numismatic antenna stand at attention -- NGC 66. However, carefully looking at the photo and with the addition of the CAC sticker, I see nothing (except perhaps luster, which I can't judge well) to cause concern. So let's call it a nice 66 with some color, and sold at Island coins (whose prices tend to be high). If it was in 67 plastic, it's a $3k-ish coin (retail). If it's a normal 66, it's a $750-ish coin, so there's a huge range for this coin to be priced in. So anywhere between $1k and $2k seems within reason. Splitting the difference, my gut says $1500, but because RLM guessed that already, I'll go with $1300 and give him some room.
hear any 9's $999 my guess...ive always wanted to buy a nice MS-63-65 maybe FH....my fav quarter design
Island coins has never been shy on asking price, don't know if he negotiated or was firm. Don't know if that is still the case with IC but they seem to be current on their website and sure have some nice coins.
