The edge does definitely look silver, but I'm sure some jackass marked it with a silver marker.

2 boxes of nickels, no wars, about a roll and a half of 30-50's. 2 buffs, one no date and one 1918-S. Also got over a roll of 2009-d.

Does it sound like silver when you flip it in the air or drop it or jingle it with other coins? I mean that's an easy test.

    Sorry, in reply to #9513

Lucky for me, one PNC bank has a steady supply of halves at their branch. Unluckily for me, the 3 rolls I could afford today had nothing good in them.

Halves: Monday box = silver skunk....Weds. box = silver skunk. Hoping I can break the streak with my Saturday box.

Way too many skunks here lately. Has anything changed over the past month? I was thinking Christmas may have had something to do with people digging deep for cash etc but my last boxes were dated December 7 and they were good. I guess what I'm asking is do we think there is seasonality here or something different with the sorting machines or just plain old statistics.

I found a 72 just like this one. I thought it sounded like silver but now I'm doubting myself. Mine looks like it may have been refinished because it shines like a proof.

Box\roll swap meetup in the NJ\NY\PA area?

Anyone interested in doing a box\roll swap meetup in the NJ\NY\PA area? Each member would bring a box(es) of halves. We could open the boxes, mix the rolls up (maybe marking them first) and distribute. If we do it at a restaurant with a private party room we could search the rolls there while having a couple of beers\sodas, etc. Everyone would get a mixture of coins from different regions and different suppliers. We don't have to limit it to halves either. It would be a good opportunity to swap searching tips, etc.

I haven't been roll searching long enough to know if it's seasonal. If so, it's gonna be a long 10-11 months.

Interesting idea, Moonshine. Moneys a bit too tight for me to do that right now though.

    2 40%'s out of a box today.

Seriously, even with abbreviations this should remain a family-friendly place.

Come on guys, its not meant literally! Its a term of shock not insult or profane. The "f" will mean what you want it to mean.

Haha I found this same type of penny a couple months back. It's one of my favorite circulation finds LOL

Went to a new bank I haven't been in before and asked for a box of nickels and the lady looked at me as if murdered her only child. Gave me the third degree, "are you a customer?", "is this for business purposes?", and consulted with a manager before allowing me to take $20 worth lol.

Grabbed a few rolls of dimes, pennies, and halves as well, but didn't find jack.

    Still no 2009 nickels!
