Well I can say without a doubt that the 1964 Jefferson Nickel would not be on my list. If you said the 1955 Jefferson Nickel, I could agree, but not the 1964. Not when examples like this exist.
I can, but not that I have come across. The coin design I hate more than any other is the 1792 Half Disme. She looks like a banshee. By far the ugliest representation of lady liberty on any US coin.
I probably went through about 1000 nickels ($50 worth) in the past couple days. I bet there were a easily 25-30 1964s in there. I see an old beat up nickel, and Im thinking War Nickel and its a 1964 about 90% of the time.
I read this and laughed very hard. I only hate them b/c they are the coin I come across the most when I'm searching and thats depleting my chaces of finding keepers, 1964's around every corner :[
Yea, I hear a roll of 1964 nickels goes for $1.25 on ebay. Vending machines spit them right back out.
I don't like the 1982 zinc cents. I hoard the bronze pennies, and finding an '82 means I have to put it on a scale, and it being zinc, is disappointing.
Interesting question and it's hard to day. I would have to say the nickles where they departed from the traditional Monticello design.
It may depend on geography. As late as 1980, about every tenth nickel in this area was a 1964-D. It still holds the record of 1.7 Billion produced which was about 10 times the typical production.
I hear ya, but I promise, with almost 2 billion minted, there are some nice ones out there. We just need the roll searchers to persevere, find them, and sell them to guys like me.
I guess I don't really hate any coin really. I dislike the designs of every coin made in over a century and don't regularly collect them, but I don't hate them. Guy
I really don't like to come up with screen names and usually end up with something I regret. Hence the one I have now. I don't really hate any coins but I have to say I'm unimpressed and unenthusiastic about coins with no inherent value so anything minted after 1965 is not on my radar. Yes I know about the 40% fifty cent pieces but just go with it. The designs have been uninspired and brought us committee/PC work like SBA and Sacagawea and most of the modern commemoratives.
Oh, I definitely hate certain coins! Anyone else here a nickel searcher; you find a 1942, flip it over, and there isn't a big ole' fat mintmark on the back? 1942 non-silver nickels are (from my perspective as a roll searcher) a true downer! Same with '65 dimes and quarters. While I don't like most modern coins, the Susan B. Anthony is probably one of my least favorite. I have to say I like the new union shield design; did ya'll know that design is based on a New Jersey post-colonial piece? Only found out that myself a couple weeks ago! edit: Although I'm sure Lehigh has the pictures to make me think otherwise on that '42
