http://cgi.ebay.com/Washington-Libe...02?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item20b68a862e Honestly some folks will buy anything! I ALMOST feel like I should send a msg or ask a ? like "Did you know that "error" was caused by a coin rolling machine?
Do you really think that buying an example of a coin with counting machine marks for less than what you would pay for a beer at a bar is cause for concern? IMO, it is a nice reference piece and worth the $1 postage.
also, why would anyone pay a premium for that kind of "reference piece"? I would agree if it was any actual error, or even counterfiet.
What premium? The bid is $0.26 and the coin is a quarter. The only additional expense is the $1 S&H. Do you own a coin with counting machine marks? I don't, thus it might be worth $1 for someone who wants one. Besides, you would be surprised what people will pay money for. As an example, I would pay $20 if I was guaranteed never to have to read another thread about someone getting screwed out of $1. :fish:
Caveat Emptor! I don't spend my time surfing the internet looking to find people who are getting ripped off on E-Bay. I spend my time looking for eye appealing coins to add to my collection. If you want to be the cheapskate who is worried about someone else's $1 bill, be my guest, but I refuse to indulge your miserly ways one minute further. Get a Life!
Are we talking about those all-in-one counting machine that crimps the rolls? If so, my goodness I must have a ton of those mint errors LOL BTW: Those machines should be outlawed till they use a much friendlier method of crimping the ends! That's not right - just not right to tear up our coinage like that!
It's been worse-- I've found a few Barber and Mercury dimes with a big semi-circular gash in them. Those old counting/rolling machines were really rough on coins, especially, it seems, dimes.
