I picked this up on eBay the other day. I'm not really a nickel collector, but I've always liked this design. I bought this date/mm because of the price fitting my budget and the low mintage. It is slabbed NGC MS65.

If anyone knows of a website to check survival estimates for these I'd appreciate a link.

Thanks for looking, any input is appreciated also.

To my knowledge there is no such web site. And rarely are there even any books where the author will even try to estimate the survival numbers for a given coin. The exceptions to that are some of the more scarce and earlier gold coins.

Well in that case, can anyone tell me what the survival estimate of this date/mm is?

That's what I thought I was telling you - no they cannot.

As Doug has stated, extant populations are not really used in the numismatic world; they are impossible to determine in most cases.

The information you can get is the mintage and the graded populations. The mintage for the 1937-S Buffalo Nickel is 5,635,000. The population in MS65 is 4891/2433 with 8,940 total coins graded by PCGS & NGC. As you can see from those numbers, this date/mm is common in gem state, and even common in premium gem. You have to go all the way to MS67 to reach some claim to conditional rarity with a populaton of 152/1 in MS67.

Alright thanks guys. I'll just keep my fingers crossed that the value will increase with time....20 years or so.

Looks nice. Looks like it has some of the golden toning around the rims. You get some of these with blazing luster in the 65 &66 range and they are nice.
