NGC VG8 Bust Dime

    I have no concerns with it, Only some letters of Liberty must be clear and it looks to me like all except for the E are clear. Also it has a clear date and legends/devices.....The reverse is probably not the best in a VG holder but satisfies the requirements.

    I didn't think the reverse would even make G. thats what confuses me.

    yeah,, I like complete rims at VG.... but I'm a total novice in bust coinage.

    They put most of the grading weight on the obverse , the reverse barely makes good .

    For Capped Bust Dimes, the Redbook says full rims aren't a requirement until VF20.

    The obverse has VG8 locked up pretty good and has a shot at VG10. The reverse is G04 at best. G06 would have been a better grade but the obverse carried the coin. I imagine the reverse was weak off the dies or there wouldn't be such a dramatic difference.

    I'd like the coin more in a 6 holder, but 8 isn't too far off to my eye.

    What really has me confused is why someone would send this coin in to be graded. It's what, a $20 coin raw?

    Maybe NGC felt bad for the submitter. lol
