Sorry guys - had to make some money to pay for some more coins...

here are top of the page results using 1880 S PCGS MS 65 -VAM -color -date as search criteria. it seems to have removed most of the varieties however I did not check. Its late and I wanted to post something...

It appears that these are completed sales using the search criteria above, for this period.

BTW the best time to buy this coin is; auctions that end on monday - mid day, average price = $126 :)

Hey Eye, can you run the same 80S comparative for 'bay sales "auction style" vs "BIN style".... ?

I did not toss the toning factor out. But when you look at both ebay and heritage you can see where the "toning" played into the final price. Those are the exceptions not the rule. I am not knocking toned coins - just that the flucuation is even more pronounced when it comes to that. As I said it was weird not looking at the coins - I did look at a few. I think one seller got about an extra 100 dollars by calling the coin PL. It exhibited signs of being PL but the NGC holder did not state that. Not saying the coin is not PL, but I did not study it real hard.
No I did not verify the dates - only went back 24 auctions. I think most of them were recent - late 2010 and 2011, but I did not confirm it. If you get to some of the rare dates and grades you would probably not find any sold on ebay - I think they limit it to 30 days on line. On heritage I think they go with the last 4 or 5 - I usually pull up the list.

PS - I also did not try comparing BIN's versus auctions. I also did not look at those that did not sale on ebay - you could tell some of those auctions were solely to gouge some unknowing person. I also did not look to see if they put it up with a high bin and then something different. I have seen them do that on ebay. I think the funniest one was the guy that had the coin listed with high starting bid. Each week he dropped the starting bid by $5 to $10 - then he got a bite. Boom the auction closed above the very first BIN price.

Baha, I think I can not positive, there is a crap load of data that can be looked at several ways. I am still learning.. On the list I posted you can deduce the sale type in the last row of numbers.

when the start price equals the end price with one bid.... well :)

Ebay has done nothing but help me and all my winning bidders..I do believe they are getting carried away with recent fees and such but im still 100% ebay when i auction items....I been to alot of online auctions since 2008 to compare and ebay has stomped them all in my opinion...I hope this helps you
