moneyer12 i just love UK coins.......

absolutely sweet F.A the coin has been ruined by plating, why on god's holy earth do people feel the urge to destroy beautiful coins by plating them??? one reason, to make a quick buck.............

It's just a conversation piece. Being gold plated and counterstamped, it would only have value if you could find another person interested in it. I'd keep it if I found it at face value but I wouldn't buy it.

While searching halves I found silver... and by silver I mean a half that some knuckle head spray painted silver. If it's not spray paint I'd hold on to it if you got it for face as well. Where did you find it?

I don't mean to tinkle in your oatmeal, but I can't see why someone would coat something in gold and then simply release it back into circulation. I'm sure you know that gold is not cheap. Don't take my word for it if you have a hunch. You don't lose any money by digging further but I don't see how you would have anything significant. Good luck!

Well, based on the dates stamped on the coin, I think it is honoring the 25th anniversary of the election that JFK won his Presidency. If you look, the dates 1960 and 1985 are stamped above IN GOD WE TRUST.

There not worth anything. I've myself gotten these type of coins to. Nothing to keep though. I've also found silver type plated.

Sure it is! It's less than five cents a milligram. And gold plating is THIN -- there's probably only a couple of milligrams plated onto a piece that size.

Yep... that's why you can buy those worthless 24K plated coins for next to nothing (unless you fall for their phony ads...).

I've seen one with the same counterstamp/gold plating. My last dealer had it in the junk pile selling it for a couple bucks I believe. I think somebody ended up buying it. Like ikandiggit said, its only valuable if you can find somebody who wants it.

I have a similar half dollar like the one pictured. I got it free with something I bought through the mail. I imagine it is worth exactly what I paid for it! Funny I was looking at it and wondering, it is plated in 24K gold... :)

I've seen 'em go for a buck in a dealer's token bin.

Just a reminder on market theory, Hobo, price is not equal to value. If I had one, I could list it on eBay for $100 if I wanted to. That doesn't mean it is worth $100. The last two of these to sell on eBay sold for $6.95 and $.99, respectively.

To a JFK half collector it is damaged goods - worth only 50 cents. To a collector of counterstamped coins it is worth more than face value.

Does the counterstamp help or hurt it’s value? I say it helps it. Without it, the coin is worth 50 cents. With it, it is worth more than that.
