I wrote an article about my local coin club's use of custom scrip (kids bucks) to encourage young collectors to participate in club auctions, which the ANA's The Numismatist decided to publish. Other activities designed to encourage the participation of younger members are also described. And designed the two scrip denominations, which include vignettes from the U.S. 1896 Educational Series Silver Certificates. I wanted a 'classic' look, and the educational tie-in was a plus.
i encourage youngsters with their coin collections at every opportunity, last month i gave away around 100 coins to an eight year old nephew of my daughter in law because he had developed an interest in collecting, i also encourage my grand sons to collect both coins and bank notes as i feel that it is a very worth while hobby which can develop into a lifelong hobby such as happened to me.
