    connor,

That is a CR # H16. (CR stands for Criswell number. Grover Criswell catalogued the currency of Southern states back in the 1950s.) What makes this note especially interesting is Sam Houston signed it (lower-right corner).

Wish I had a good camera or a scanner, but this note is still sexy ;). Got it at a coin shop connected to gun store (weird but this is Austin). Anybody want to take a stab what this is worth or tell me more about? There is a bunch of staining that is more noticeable up close and of course it was slash canceled.

I'll take it you were at McBride's. Nice store, just wish the coin part was as big as the gun part :D

    BTW Good note.

Correct! Not my favorite store, but they are the only one in central Austin that has ancient coins and currency. Too bad their prices are outrageous on any coin item because they charge tax. Also, the lady in charge of the coin shop won't negotiate much on prices. They do have some good deals on currency because they don't carry many pieces or seem to have an in-house expert on them.

Back to the note, can anyone judge its value or grade?

Try Village Coin their hours are terrible but they are nice.

And as for the note it's hard to tell the grade from a picture on notes but someone will chime in.
