No, you can definitely be persecuted for it if you refuse to surrender the money after being notified that it doesn't belong to you. The law considers it theft.

I've been looking for the 1992's, thought I had one but it ended up being a WAM... stupid MD made it look like a ClAM.

As for the variety you found, Gary, I can't spot that with my naked eye, so I can't be bothered to look... I get my boxes of cents out of the way in about 2 hours by treating them like an assembly line.

First I split open a roll, flip everything heads-up, take out any Canadians or Wheats I happen to notice.

Second, I sort out the copper, 1982's, then 1983-1991s, then 1992's, and lastly 1993 and laters. On a 50 coin roll, this takes about 30-40 seconds when I have a big area to work with.

Coppers get dumped into a bag/box with the other coppers, '82's get drop tested for a ring... if they ring, in the bag with the copper, if they thud, into the rejects with the 1983-1991's. 1992's get a quick flip look for the ClAM, and then I flip over all the others and check for WAM's.

Totals out to about 2 minutes a roll.

2009's are tough to find, however preserved en masse.

Really slim chance you'll ever find one, but a 1996-W is the true key date of the Modern Roosevelt series.

I found a George V silver. Not sure if its a dime or nickel. The design is barely recognizable. In fact the only reason I know it's 1911 is that that is the only year it was minted (in this design) Didn't even know it was Canadian until I searched the World coin book.

Does anyone know if the dime is smaller in this coin? I'm sure it's the smallest coin from that year. It's about the size of a dime perhaps a tiny bit larger.

I believe the 5 cent Canadian piece from 1911 was silver.

Also, Canadian 5 cent pieces, when silver were the size of, or a bit smaller (I think it's the latter without going to check) than a US dime. The Canadian dimes are larger than the silver 5 cent pieces, but smaller than the nickel 5 cent pieces. I know that dimes are silver up to about 67, then 67-68 they have a lower silver content, if any silver at all. I believe the 5 cent pieces changed to a larger size, and different non-silver composition after the last King Edward.

I found about $119 in CWR and loose at a couple of banks today:
    1 1965
    1 1966
    1 1994 S Proof
    1 2000 S Proof

I also picked up 16 Ikes.

I finally found some silver in a roll today. On my 8th roll of nickels, I found a very worn 1942-P.

Of course, that roll was also short 2 nickels, so I probably broke even. ::)

My previous box of pennies netted 26 wheats, but today's box was a disappointment by comparison, only seven. However, I finally found my first 1938-dated coin in circulation!

    Other finds to note were:

    *25 Canadians.
    *My first Bermudan Pig Penny.
    *A 2009-D Professional Life cent.

Congrats on the War Nick... they're worth something like $1.60, so you definitely came out ahead.
Congrats on the '38! I've found 1 Buffalo, and 3 or 4 Jeffersons. Probably a couple Wheats too, but I don't pay attention to common-date wheats.

I guess fate wasn't pleased that I got only seven wheats from this hunt, so it gave me a present at the CoinStar where I dumped today. The gentlemen in front of me was dumping his stash of Wheats, and I noticed there was at least one steel penny in the reject tray. I told him that the machine won't accept the steel cents, and he took his change with him to the register to redeem his receipt.

I thought he had just given the pennies to the cashier to add to his receipt, but he put him in the "take a penny" tray. I peeked into it and exchanged some of my pennies for the 18 he did leave in there. I was amazed at what I found:

*Eight 1943 pennies, including one '43-S.
*10 Wheats, with the oldest being 1927.

In the trash bin near the CoinStar machine, I noticed the gentleman's wrappers and I was a bit let down that I missed the chance to buy some of the rolls from him, notably the "1920's duplicates" one, but finding the steel cents was a nice surprise.

Wow, that's killer. I'd have stopped him on the spot and offered him 2x face for each roll. Time for you to find out where your local coinstar sends their coins off to, then start hammering those cents boxes for a while, lol.

Regarding Brinks boxes of halves: The newest bank to order me halves got them in today and they are from Brinks. I have had zero luck with Brinks halves. Does anyone have any insight into whether or not Brinks are better, worse, or the same as another supplier??

In my experience, worse. But not a lost cause.

Heck yeah! Didn't have a lot of cash on me so I got $300 in halves from a box and pulled:

    4- 40%

I'm going back tomorrow to buy the rest and any others they have. (FYI, my tradition whenever I find silver is to go inside, flip the coin like a pirate, say "Arrgh!" and my wife must respond "Good job, husband" before I leave and stop flipping.)

edit: I burgguy- this was a brinks box. I've skunked on other brinks boxes, and have also pulles 90's from them. Seems to be luck as far as what you get.

I checked a couple Brinks penny boxes today. Got 15 Canadian & 20 wheats per box. I think we may be seeing more Canadian cents soon Ay?
