With Ebay and Paypal fees I probably wouldn't list under 190. Least make a few bucks off of them.

Good luck on the auction. I thought about trying Ebay myself if my Craigs List buyers run out.

Made a couple stops today... ~$80 in CWR and loose halves, one 67. I did pick up 7 more ikes for the next ebay lot. I have cleared about $20 on 100 coin lots.

Are you ready for a funny story?

Ha ha ha ha ha. Scroll up a bit and you'll see my post about getting shutout on a box of dimes, that boxes of dimes in my area just don't produce. Then I whine a little about never finding a merc dime. I conclude that I'll not be doing boxes of dimes any time soon (though bags of dimes have been modestly productive).

So, tonight I drive to a bank a little ways from my house because all of the banks in my area are out of halves for the week. I called this bank and they had a box of halves. The box of dimes I got skunked on yesterday was one with clear wrappers. So, I just opened only 7 or 8 rolls to pull out a couple of 2010 P and D coins, but carefully looked for silver in the remainer rolls. Finding none, I posted the aforementioned complaint about dime boxes. So, I take in this mostly full box to the teller to turn them in to help pay for the box of halves, and they tell me that they can't take the rolls, that I will have to put them into the coin counting machine. I say to them, "Are you serious? You can see that they are dimes through the plastic wrappers." They insist. I grumble over to the machine and start opening the rolls. About halfway through, I notice a white dime in a roll. Oh my goodness. It looks like I missed a silver dime. I pull it out and low and behold, it is a 1939 D in VG10 or F12....MY FIRST MERCURY DIME FIND........EVER!

When I was a boy first getting into coins in the late 1960s/early 1970s, my brother had a large jar full of Mercury dimes (he's 10 years older than me). I loved the design, and started looking for them. I never found one checking my change all my life. Of course, it never occured to me to buy rolls from the bank and search through them (duh!) until April 2009 when I found this forum.

I have found all kinds of silver halves, that are worth a lot more money.....but I can honestly tell you, I was more thrilled with this find today....and to think, I almost missed it. By the way, I showed it to the teller and thanked her for making me put them in the machine as I never would have found it.

    :D

Congrats Bob! Know you've been complaining about not having found one every time I find one, haha. :p

And yeah, those dimes can be tough to spot. I will typically look at those clear-wrapped dime rolls (The plastic makes the silver tough to see as it gives a bit of a sheen to the modern dimes) once when I first get them, then again as I'm putting them back in the box, and a third time as I dump the rolls out. Overkill, you could say, but I've missed probably 10-15 and caught them upon second examination.

My girlfriend actually missed 5 (!) the first time she did a box. All of them.

    EDIT: Oh, also, pics!

I read last night that someone is saying that a supplier is culling coins for silver. I'm wondering... why would a company NOT have this capability and take advantage of it? I mean if I could buy a sorter, or whatever you call it that could reject silver and make my company extra money I would do it. I sure hope this never happens but I'm simply wondering if my (our) hobby of silver collecting is in jeopardy.

    Box 1 of halves: skunk
Box 2 of halves: last roll 1 40%er

OH, and my ebay auction for 100 Ikes is up to $130. Go figure. But those Ebay fees are crazy high.

**** ebay and paypal. As soon as ebay became publicly traded, costs went up out the ass. It's greed, plain and simple.

They'll net something like, $22 if my auction closes about where I expect it to.

Why would someone pay 1.3x face, or more for an Ike? And regarding the fees, I can live with 4% to Paypal since it enables me to take a credit card but the 9% Ebay fee is simply obscene.

You do know paypal is owned by eBay, right?

I did know that but I hadn't thought it through in my head. So yeah, they're making more than 13% off the top which is crazy!

All CC companies charge a percentage of the transaction as a fee, paypal just adds a few tenths of a percent and rakes in millions. Until viable alternatives become commonly accepted, Paypal will continue to be a huge cash cow.

So I just went and looked up Ebay's stock info, and wow...

28.75% profit margin, 22.23% operating margin. [IMG] $2.548bn dollar profit last year... and they don't pay a dividend. Gotta wonder where that cash goes.

In contrast, a company like Best Buy operates at 2.78% profit margin, and 4.73% operating margin.

Not that I suggest one gambles but--I have been to the local casino many times. I make it so I don't end up with a full dollar amount.
They have a cash out machine and I will periodically cash out say...3.84 and wind up with .84 cents to go through.
I have had great luck. It appears the casino cashes people's coins and just deposit it into the machines. I found a coin--looks to be silver about the size of a dime. The date is 1694 and I can make out a few letters on the rim.
I found a lot of wheat pennies also. I think some people steal the coins and just cash in because they're addicted to gambling.
I talked to the security and explained what was going on but they didn't seem to be interested.
