I found this doubling on a type 2 DDO I have one other Type 2 DDO and it does not have this doubling. Can anyone shed any light or do they know of this doubling on the 09 VDB?

Looks like machine doubling to me. Note the shelf-like appearance of the "doubling".

Although not completely unheard of, it is extremely rare for a coin to be struck by two doubleD dies.

I have read about the shelf vs.. but I thought it was the other way way around. Softer edges = machine doubling. sharp edges = Doubled Die. Where can I get the clarification on the definition?

    here is a legitimate DDO

and the reverse above for side by side comparison.

There are a five known 1909 Lincoln DDR varieties, one of which, the 1909P-1DR-005 is on a 1909 VDB. The other four are on the non-VDB 1909 Lincolns. Neither PCGS or NGC will slab them though as they are very minor DDRs and not in the Cherrypicker's Guide. I do have one in an ANACS slab though :)

You can check the 1909 DDRs out here, a great website if you haven't seen it before:

I have never heard of a DDR on a 1909 VDB DDO FS-1102 and based on the photo I'd say it's not a DDR.

The correct term is DOUBLED DIE - I want to share this webpage with you - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doubled_die
Quote - "Note that the proper terminology for this occurrence includes the letter 'd' at the end of the first word, hence "doubled die". The term "double die" without the first word ending in 'd' is not proper numismatic terminology." closed quote

I hope it wasn't Yellow Dye #4, I think that causes cancer.

    For the 1909-P
Wexler lists 17 known doubled die reverses
    CONECA lists 11
Coppercoins as of now has added 1DR-006 (no VDB)

Wexler has x-referenced his WDDR-001 with CONECA DDR-001 and WDDR-011 with CONECA DDR-005.

No other x-references have been established at this time.

Wexler and Coppercoins, when possible do establish x-reference to other listings. CONECA only x-references to Cherrypicker listings.

Although it is highly unlikely that all the other listed varieties not x-referenced are unique that possibility remains.

Therefore that are at least 17 Known 1909-P doubled die reverse varieties.(The 17 varieties listed by Wexler).

And the unlikely possibility as many as 32.(the 17 WDDR varieties listed by Wexler + the 9 DDR varieties not x-referenced listed by CONECA + the 6 1DR varieties not x-referenced listed by Coppercoins).
