I could puke right now.......I have no fricking clue what happend but it didnt take my bid! If someone here won #10220 Ill pay dearly for it
Man, sorry to hear it. I actually followed the auction and was surprised not to see any more bids. Call Heritage Monday and find out what the heck happened.
I never said price was more important than the coin. Price is most certainly of some importance in this hobby, though; isn't the goal of many collectors to win their desired coin at the best possible price? I certainly don't want this to be a "oh look how much I paid" sort of thing, but the accompanying information of the final price helps give people an idea of how great a deal it was. Thanks for supplying the image mark!
What was up with that? there was like 20 in a row without a fair warning or bids accepted? Its a tough pill to swallow but I doubt there is anything they can do about it now. I think Ill kindly call them and explain what happend and see if they will submit an offer to the new owner.
blanket shut out for me... but i'm a cheap'e....... last year I won around 10 coins.... nothing cheap this year,,,, oh well,, maybe next year the economy will tank again and i can get get some 'reasonable' deals at hc..... I've not seen many this year.... but there is always tomorrow !!.... tonight it appears I'm back to the 'bay and shopping for deals there.
dime freak,,, sorry to hear about the loss.... !! let us know what hc says.. would love to see you post that puppy if you pick it up.
Sorry - did not mean to imply that. Too me the pictures are more important because I can go out to heritage to price items in various grades. Actually what you need is pictures, price and grade. This is why I really recommend you get your parents to create you a heritage account. You can look at a coin - compare to other coins in the grade and the prices they realized. If I just said 1872 65bn $2070 - I am not sure what you get from it, but a picture gives you a chance to see the coin and form your own opinion. AND with a heritage account you can look at some of the other 65bns compare prices and the quality of the coin. Personally (and I may be biased since I won this one ) I think this one is much nicer than the last 2 or 3 65 browns that have sold.
Heritage is good for the high grade/rare coins like that one in 65BN but I prefer eBay - last 90 days for current market values of the more common coins. 1872 PCGS Indian Avg. Price: $735.53 Start Price: $151.00 Listings: 35 Sell-Through: 42.86%
It will be in the guess the grade - soon I hope. I also wound up getting one of the coins on eBay that I did not win from Heritage. The eBay appears to be a nicer (it is definitely redder) and I paid less for it than I bid on Heritage. It usually goes the other way for me.
Looking forward to it ! I got smoked in the cents yesterday. Had bids out on the: 12s 16d 18d .. couple/few more.., forget which now.... anyway, I checked them once after the live got into the indians and laughed..... I had been outbid on all, and was only close to 1 at that time..... so to the 'bay, and picked up another one that I wanted last night, plus 4 others that were on my non-priority list. Got all 5 for less than my lowest bid on one of the 5 on HC... but they weren't teen's either....
Yes - I do not rule out ebay and it does have some useful information. I typically find that the BIN prices for graded coins is higher than heritage, BUT if you can find an auction(and on average) those are pretty reasonable. Seems like for graded coins there are fewer and fewer auctions and more BINs. I use both to search for coins and to fgure out what to bid. The worse part about it is some of the bust halves raw on ebay go for more than graded examples on heritage. The last 4 I have added to my album came from heritage.
I don't know which 16-D you were looking at, but I followed a 16-D and the 18-D - until they got out of hand. However, the one that really got me was the 32-D - http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=1151&Lot_No=9583&Lot_Id_No=190089. I thought I might be able to get it cheap (<$300) because the obverse was a bit rough (IMHO) for a 66 even though the reverse was nearly perfect. It was $500 before eh live auction (I believe) and sold for $1500. Either I am seeing too much or they are seeing what I am seeing.
That is a very good point.... When just browsing ebay i always opt to view "auctions" only.... The BIN's are over populated with coins from folks trying to retire early,,,, to save time,, just browse auctions and let BIN owners waste thier time... Now if searching for a specific date, then I'll include BIN's,,,, around twice a year, searching the 'bay weekly, looking at literally thousands and thousands of bin's,,, I'll find one or two that are good deals per year..... upshot is that BIN's are not a target rich environment for getting a good deal... stick with 'auctions'.
Unbelievable money for that 32-D. And I don't think it's undergraded, either. Dings on the obv., as you said, and a big gouge on the N of CENT.
..... I don't see anything in that 32-d that warrants that kind of premium at all...... nice coin, nice color & really clean fields & very nice rev, but I also see a roughness on a focal point on the obv,,, registry fever ?
The money for the 32 D is really high... I wonder what Heritage thinks considering they posted that the FMV was $420
This was not the only example of full retail + premium for a coin that really didn't justify it during this years FUN HC auctions imo..... ... my guess, given the results I've seen, is that they are thinking,,, "hummmm... Should I put a pool in the backyard this summer, or get that new bass boat with all this extra $$.."
