Hey, longtime lurker and first time poster here. I got into roll searching a few months ago, and it was quite addicting. Today, I decided to search through $500 in quarters.

I looked through $210 in bank-wrapped rolls and $290 in customer-wrapped rolls, and these rolls came from four different banks. I was amazed to find two silvers in two different customer-wrapped rolls. I found a 1951 in one of the CWR's and in another CWR, a 1934!

I should change my tactics when searching through dimes. At best, I've found two silver dimes in one box, and both of them were Roosevelts.

Hit up some random banks and got a box from a branch that usually keeps one around for random customer requests. First branch I stopped at had 2 40%'s, then everywhere else was just clad. The box produced 3 40%'s. Where have all the 90%'ers gone? lol.

Nothing out of $200 in halves. Also got $50 In Ikes that someone dropped off and didn't find anything to interesting. I love Ikes though... fun to buy coffee with them and make the workers scratch their head, lol. Might start on a box of nickels after dinner. Haven't decided yet.

Any of you guys or gals ever gone to a coin auction and had any luck? There is a pretty sizable collection coming up in a small town not to far from me that I was thinking of checking out. Looks like a lot of silver will be up for grabs.

2 Brinks boxes of halves, nothing. 2 other boxes, one '64, one 40%er. I swear Brinks boxes are the worst in my short experience with this - I mean never a trace of silver in a Brinks box.

It'll all go for near melt or better, I'd wager.
I too hate Brinks boxes, but some people swear by them.

I agree, I'm on a streak of eight skunks in a row, seven of those boxes were from Brinks.

My newest bank, Wachovia, who is actually owned by Wells Fargo is getting me boxes next week. Any idea where these halves will be coming from? I hope this isn't a stupid question and I'm only hoping it's not Brinks.

I was afraid of that to. I'll probably check it out for the heck of it, something to do on a Saturday morning. I had a friend go to an auction a few years ago and purchased two rolls of 64's at face.

Auction isn't for a couple of weeks yet, I'll post if I have any luck.

All I can tell ya about Wach/WF is that their boxes suck here. Teller told me some dude used to order $3k a week for about 4 years straight looking for silver.

My theory on why Brinks boxes suck, at least where there are TD banks... TD Banks' bags fill up, typically, once every $100 as to not block their reject slot. So when the bag fills and they send it off to Brinks, it's far, far more likely to get mixed in with someone else's dumps, which are typically going to be around $500. Make sense?

I prefer fed boxes wherever I can get 'em.

I don't follow the logic in relation to TD. Is it not possible that Brinks, or whomever, has machines that reject silver? I mean if I owned the company and the technology existed I'd keep all the silver I could. Does it work that way or is my thinking flawed? I'm just trying to figure out where to get the best boxes from.

All the banks I've gotten boxes from around here have one of two types of boxes, either the Brinks or the yellow box with Stringer and Sons yellow wrappers. Are these Fed boxes?

I believe the yellow-wrapped rolls are fed boxes, yeah, but I'm not sure.

I know for a fact that Brinks machines don't reject silver because I've pulled over 250 silver dimes from Brinks boxes as well as a roll or so of 40%'ers in my early roll-searching days.

I can say that I am 100% sure some machines reject silver. The cash office my sister works in has one of them. SHe dumps bags of coins in to sort and roll and silver rolls out the rejection slot with foreign coins. That is where she gets her silver as they go through cashier drawers/bags at the end of shifts.

Yeah, but the major Brinks sorting machines that handle thousands of coins per minute and wrap them as well certainly don't sort out silver.

Man, all the coins at auctions here go way to high to for me to bid on. I don;t understand it at all.

I've had all kinds of luck with Brinks boxes. Of course, I've had lots of luck with the other boxes too....
