http://cgi.ebay.com/1932-S-SILVER-W...73?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item3f063798ed I saw this on another forum and the person said it was a fake. Said "copy" used to be on the nose, is this true?
Sure looks like Copy was embossed on the coin and has covered over. Look at the wing on the reverse. I would definitely say a fake.
It is very 'mushy' for so much luster, I'd stay away. I don't see where 'copy' was removed, I would think it would be more obvious, unless someone was very talented.
Look in front of the face. You can see the traces of the indentation, and on the reverse you can see the traces of the punch there as well. The reverse is where I always check, as it is the hardest to cover up.
I vote fake as well. The details look too mushy and there's some questionable marks. There's like a rough field around the mintmark so it may have been added.
On the 1932 Washingtons and some of the 1934s the Motto (IGWT) is weak. This is actually a diagnostic of the genuine coin. As far as this coin goes, the damage on the reverse (on the wing) is enough to make me not want to buy it genuine or not.
I am no expert by any means, in fact, I am a newbie. However, taking a closer look at the "S", it seems to me that there is no seperation in the serifs. To me, an untrained eye, the bottom portion of the S is closed. Maybe its the pics but I doubt it. Any ideas why it looks to close or even closed?
First, take a look at this coin (note the mint mark and the machine doubling in the last "s" of "States", exact match to OP's example: http://cgi.ebay.com/1932-S-Washingt...16?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item43a4196504 Now, take a look at this "copy"... mushy details, doubled rim, totally different mint mark: http://cgi.ebay.com/Replica-1932-S-...03?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item230d0bca1b The OP's coin is definitely die struck, has correct diagnostics... if it's a fake, it's the best I've ever seen.
