I have posted this coin a few times and feel I am really beating a dead horse with a stick showing it again, but I still can not get over a solid gold coin for 9 cents. LOL I purchased 11 coins for a Dollar out of a world coin bin and this was one of the 11. So grand total 9 cents for it, by far my favorite purchase of 2010.
Coin is raw and dealer didn't have a grade on it, but I graded it MS 64. I could give reasons but I think it may distract from the original purpose of the thread. Thanks everyone for the nice comments and happy new year!
MY favorite buy? Well I guess since I only search through rolls and dont buy the coins would be the roll of dimes that I bought from the bank that held a 1963 D, not much of a find but my first silver coin from circulation.
Made it here 12/31/2010 This would be one of my better buys of 2010.but barely made here as it got here on the last day of 2010. $13.95+$2.95 S/H.
Favorite purchase of 2010 This is what is known as a Silver Strike. Since it is not a US.Minted coin, I assume it must be classified as a token. Never the less, they are .999 fine silver which I think are very neat tokens. You can only purchase these tokens on line or from a casino slot machine.
For coins, I got a group of 9 Cleopatra VII coins I liked. I also got a nice lot of about 120 Nabatean coins I still need to go through, (I like volume ) For books, I got a set of Von Aulock. I bought last week the last 4 books in SNG ANS to complete that set, as well as the last 4 editions of RIC to complete that, but they haven't arrived yet so technically not 2010.
Thanks for sharing Krispy. I was looking for that book on the bay and noticed the ones on there have a slightly different cover. What gives? http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_kw=america&_kw=early&_kw=paper&_kw=money
Although I'm not a coin collector, I do love this little merry monarch (Charles II). I got him reasonably cheap from an auction earlier in 2010. What I like about British coins is what I like about Roman coins: the great history behind the portraits. (Plus, they both are reasonably inexpensive compared to US coinage.) guy
While this coin is not even close to the most expensive coin I purchased this year, based on the overall quality of the coin and the associated eye appeal, this has to be my favorite pickup of 2010.
