For me it is this 1909 S VDB which I found in circulation when I was a young boy. I have kept it raw for many years and just recently had it slabbed with PCGS. Received a VF25.
How many years ago did you find that, Numan? I'm drooling for a 1909 ANYTHING. Oldest wheat I've found is a 1918 I think. I'm about to take all the wheats I've found and fill in a bunch of holes in my whitman folder I started as a kid. Oldest in there now is a 1928.
Johnnyflesh, It was about 40 years ago. I was collecting wheats in a Whitman album and so was searching all change. I found the 1909 and you can only imagine my excitement when I saw it was an "S" and then turned it over to see "VDB". I knew that coin, but couldn't believe I actually found one. Nothing I have ever found since then compares.
That's exactly how I felt when I found this one. There is nothing more thrilling than discovering a treasure. IMHO gary
You are probably right .... Wouldn't you love to know the story of how it made its way back into circulation? If it was from a former collector, I'm glad it is now in the hands of another collector who really appreciates it. Anyway, it was a great find, and was the main reason I have been collecting coins since then. It was also fun getting it slabbed.
