As a proud Dad, I thought I'd show off what my youngest son collects: My six year old son Phillip and I have been roll searching boxes of cent for two years (yep- he started at age four). We are in Tennessee, so I didn't think we'd be seeing too many Canadian cents. Since we started, he has kept all of them. After a while we ordered him the Whitman albums for him, and as you can see he's quite proud of them...
Being a large Canadian cent collector and making certain my children( 3) have a chance to get involved they too collect Canadian small cents although living in Guelph Ont. makes it easier availability is not an issue. If your son has a hole please feel free to IM me and I'd be glad to send him any penny I have at no cost. After all where will the next generation of collectors come from?? cheers!
cool! although i am not a child (20) i LOVE seeing canadian cents in my boxes. i have a folder started for myself too! I cheated though and bought a big ol' bag of them from my dealer to give me a good start.
i have started a set of large canadian cents with my nephew.. hes 8 i rarely get a chance to see him.. last time he came to my house i took him to bergen coin shop.. and got him a canadian cents album.. and a few.. loose cents.. from bcc.. i think like 10 of them and i started filling the album with him.. i need to find more fo him.. . can anyone help..
AWESOME! It's great seeing kids collecting! I'm amazed that you have been able to find that many canadian cents! I find a lot of them roll searching but there's no way I could complete a set. The oldest one I've found was a 1929. Keep him interested! Don't hesitate to buy the ones he is missing for birthdays, christmas, etc.
Kaosleeroy IM me and we'll hook your nephew up my local dealer has a box of culls on hand nothing special, but a way to fill holes and then the fun part starts UPGRADING sorry to shout but Yahoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love the Canadian copper love in this thread! I'd love to contribute to your sons collection as well. That is a very very cool collection and remind me of myself 15 years ago. Does he also collect the large cents?
I'm also in TN, and may, surprisingly, be able to fill a couple holes as well. PM me with anything he needs, and I'll be more than happy to toss a few his way if they'll help. In fact, if we're close, I'd even like to meet somewhere and shake the young man's hand.
Thanks Snaz and GBoulton for the offers and everyone for the nice comments! Phillip doesn't collect Vol I of the Canadian cents just because they don't circulate so there's not much chance of seeing one here in the South outside a large coin show. Every coin he's got is from bank US cent boxes we search every week. Lee
Thanks to member Gordon (GBoulton) who sent Phillip some cents in the mail to help with his collection! Really neat to have people on this forum so willing to help out others. Phillip was excited with just the box as a six year old rarely gets any sort of mail. When he opened it up and put in the cents, he found Gordon had also sent him a 1912 V nickel which is in the 2x2 he's holding. Phillip was very happy. We went through a box of cents earlier this morning, and while we found some interesting stuff and a few Canadian cents, none were old enough for him to use, so getting ten from Gordon was great. Merry Christmas everyone! Lee
