This year's ANA summer seminar schedule has been released: http://www.money.org/AM/Template.cf...mplate=/CM/ContentDisplay.cfm&ContentID=15873 I probably won't go, but some of the courses look interesting. Anyone planning to go? And what courses? Remember, coin grading courses fill quickly. guy
I plan to attend again but I'm not sure what course(s) I will take. I am thinking about taking a course on grading paper money (even though I don't actively collect currency). I'll take a look at the course schedule and see what strikes my fancy.
ANA Summer Seminar is held every summer in Colorado Springs on the campus of Colorado College a short walk from ANA Headquarters.
There are some class's they have at some of the ANA shows...Fun is having a few I believe and the Boston show did too. For you Fred Swan gives a class on MPC's...I somehow think you would like that one see Fred wrote the MPC book!
Today in the mail I got a letter from the ANA regarding my scholarship application for Summer Seminar; it seems I'll be attending this year's Summer Seminar for free! I'm very excited, if any others are going post ITT, I wouldn't mind saying hello to some of you while we're up in Colorado
Post ITT = post in this thread I'll be sure to say hello; did you end up deciding on a course for grading paper money as your previous post mentioned? My main choice is detection of counterfeit coins, I think there's a lot I can learn from that course.
Not grading paper money but two two-day courses - one on obsolete currrency and the other on Confederate currency. The second week I will be taking Advanced Digital Coin Photography. Yes, Counterfeit Detection is a great course. I have taken it twice.
If I could go I would take the introduction course in digital photography and 2 mini seminars, "The History of Coins of the Revolucion" and "Editing Digital Images 101". I'm hoping to have money saved up to go in 2013. For people who have gone before and stayed on campus do you recommend the double occupancy rooms or the private rooms? What is the weather like during that time of the year? Any tips for first timers? Thanks!!
Although I'm not going this year (I'm going to Las Vegas to see Rush, instead), I recommend the courses highly. I prefer having my own room, but many people didn't mind sharing a room. I guess I'm too old. :grandpa: In fact, next time I go, I will probably stay in the single apartments. I wrote about the last year's conference earlier. Check the archives. The weather can be hot during the days, but it can get chilly at night. I do recommend your going if you can. I almost regret not going this year...but Las Vegas and Rush are calling me. Good times, though. guy
Colorado Springs is a great place to visit or live. The weather in late June and early July is mild - highs in the 80's, sometime low 90's and lows in the 50's at night. Expect frequent rain shows in the afternoon. If you take the train up to the top of Pikes Peak, be sure to take a jacket. Also consider bringing a bike or your hiking shoes - Colorado Springs has more than 100 miles of trails within the city limits. Other things to do that are close by: - US Olymics Training Center - Pikes Peak train - Seven Falls - Royal Gorge Railroad - ANA Headquarters - Broadmoor Hotel (5 star) - Colorardo Springs Zoo (highest altitude zoo on earth)
