Okey dokey.... Looks like my submission arrived safe and sound

Invoice No. Invoice Date No. of Coins Total Value Status
    12/15/10 5 5900.00 Received

    ORDER STATUS EXPLANATION

    Status Meaning
    Received

The submission package has arrived at NGC and the number of coins in each package has been checked against the number shown on the submission invoice. The coins have been arranged by service type and date received to await the verification process.

Verification is a detailed check that the date, denomination and mint mark of the coins match the information on the submission form.

    Scheduled For Grading

Verification has been completed and submission information is entered into a computer so the coins will be traceable throughout the grading process by invoice number.

Each coin is given a temporary holder with a label bearing its invoice and line item number as text and bar-code. The coins are placed in labeled and bar-coded plastic boxes, dated, and are arranged in the order received, so that they will be graded on a "first in-first out" basis by service type.

They are now awaiting the NGC grading process, and once graded, the encapsulation process.

I've been submitting to NGC for 6 years, and the Christmas/New Year holidays have always been the busiest for them. You must also remember that the FUN Show will begin on January 7, and they are preparing for this as well. I always try to avoid submitting prior to the holidays. As a matter of fact, I hang on to my grading certificate (November renewal) to submit the coins at FUN. It saves me a little on shipping & insurance, but it still takes anywhere from 3-5 weeks to get them back.

They didn't charge me for the variety of the 3 legged I sent in. They said if it is in the red book there is no variety fee.

I checked today and they are in Quality Control:

Quality Control: Graded and encapsulated coins are re-examined by a grader to make certain that their labels are correct for both the grade and its accompanying descriptive information. He also inspects each coin for any flaws on its holder, such as scuffs or nicks.

    So hopefully before the weekend?

Is someone just kidding around? It looks like "BRILLO" which seems to be appropriate.

why even bother wasting it on problem coins? its a complete waste, why not get good use out of your free submissions by submitting problem free coins...

What? Brillo isn't a real code? :hail:

:headbang::headbang: huh? wha??? I don't have any exposure to raw coins without problems other than modern stuff. I thought it was widely accepted that most coins found raw are also found to have problems or that it is a safe bet that they were cleaned at one time or another.

Besides, How about that Morgan, I really don't think anyone would touch that given the scratch right where a mint mark would be. If it is in a holder it has a lot more value correct?

Same thing with the svdb.. the mint mark is damaged, and frankly it sort of looks like it was glued on however after a length acetone soak, if it is a fake MM then it was welded on!

Then there is the 3 legger... another coin that it is regularly altered.

The 14D has been with my family for a long time. it's color is suspect, refer to my opening comment in this post.

The 21S was a recent snag from eBay to good to be true.

Not sure what you are trying to say, I would think that none of the coins would sell raw anywhere but eBay and they wouldn't bring much.

In holders. they will bring a bunch.. Complete waste IMO would be to nothing with them.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!! I got a notification! they are on their way back!

YAY.. I am happy actually thrilled! The 21S was grand slam winning the world series in my book.

I am very surprised about the 14d I guess that explains why it looks the same as it has always looked. Can NCS do anything with it ? I guess I will have to resubmit it for conservation?

And... what do they mean the 94 Morgan was repaired? How do I get additional info?

LACQUERED coins have had a coat of clear lacquer applied in an attempt to prevent tarnishing, a common practice in past decades. The terms OBV LACQUER and REV LACQUER provide greater specificity. Proper conservation by NCS may be able to remove this contaminant.

If it is the older shellac/lacquer, commonly applied before WWII, it should come off fairly easily. The newer lacquer ( post 1950) which can be acrylic based are almost impossible to fully remove. See this thread on a 1911-D cent. At one time shellac and lacquer was considered to be an acceptable preservative technique by many, and for some the concept continued past 1950 and were no longer accepted as such since the acrylic is a different animal than the previous natural substance.
Most thought lacquer was lacquer :)

    Congrats on the 21S!
The way I am reading it, looks as though your 1894 is actually an 1894 S?? Am I seeing that right?

    No, its just 1894.
