One nice thing about this hobby is, it is easy for the family to get me X-Mas presents, because there is always something coin related I want. This year I told one of my daughters to get me a Washington Intercept Shield album for the series. Anybody else put in their request for something coin related? Merry Christmas to everybody:hail:
Absolutely...we're traveling to be with the wife's family for Christmas. They asked what i wanted...i said "Go out and find as many rolls of half dollars as you care too. Don't worry, you'll get all the money back before I leave!" :too-funny:
From 1955 -1970 Santa always gave me a 50ct box of mint set. but now that I am the giver I have been hand out to the kids in the family one of mint sets Santa gave me from them years. Merry Christmas too all!!
Anyone else do what I do? I cheat and buy what I want but don't open it when it arrives and tell my wife to open it and wrap it up for me. Sorry, but after years of experiencing well meaning but off the mark numismatic purchases, I find it easier to just buy what I would really like and have her give it to me. Maybe I am just a Grinch.
Nope, I just buy what I need and open it whenever it comes. I am the only collector in the family and others haven't the appreciation of it I have. I just don't bother them with it. gary
I reckon I am getting an Oregon trail commen,a rainbow Morgan, or $5 indian from the gf. Dont know which, I want to be surprised.
Well, I usually get the mint or proof set each year. However, this year I did ask for supplies. I want portfolio sheets that will fit my Mercs (ran out half way through and had to use some half dollar sheets) and a box to hold the proof sets. Guess in a couple days I'll see if I've been good enough for Santa to provideth.
My wife already gave me my coin related presents and it was an 1881 Morgan Dollar and a 1906 D Barber quarter. She also gave me $50 and I put that towards another Morgan and a Peace dollar (forget the years off hand, but the morgan was a NGC MS62 and Peace was MS60). My uncle, who also is a coin collector, says hes got some stuff for me. lol We'll see come Saturday.
I also informed the families of my hobby but this year I may have spoken too late but at least they know! I wouldnt mind getting a Peace Dollar as it is my all time favorite coin and I don't have one yet! My girl was hinting at something her sister is getting me and spent some money on it...I can only hope! :] I'm the only collector in the families so they don't have coinz on their mind like meeee.
I wish I could because there's a lot of coins that I need, but my family just wouldn't know where to begin to buy it for me, so I asked for eBay/PayPal gift certificates so I could buy it for myself. Gift certificates aren't that fun to give, but that's the only way someone can really give me coins.
This is a good time of the year for my coin magazine renewals from the family. I usually get my ANA membership renewed as a birthday present.
To keep my family from getting ripped off, I only ask for things you can buy at the mint. Sure they charge premiums, but it's better than a cleaned coin!
My wife and I are going in to get ourselves a new water softener for Christmas this year. Like most collectors our coin wants are hard to relate to the numismatically challenged.
I do like that too using the Mint website is an easy way. But I like giving ideas like the Macro Lens or Supply's too.
I buy myself coins, no point in them getting something that doesn't fit my numismatic interests. But I go overboard on myself to make up for it!
