Yep. I've had some toners that were in PCGS holders that I sent back to them because I knew they were AT

 

I don't think that's quite accurate...you sent them back becuase you were told their were AT and proof was given

 

Show me an example. I'd love to add it to my files.

 

Im not talking about the tonedcointrader fiasco, i have had coins I know were blatantly AT in PCGS holders.

Thats a terrific looking coin. There is nothing about that coin which suggests artificial toning , to me. I'm speaking about the Seated example.

 

I think he was referring to the Textile toned AT coins...I would like to see images of that as well.....these Alex/tonedcointrader coins I have seen before

 

I haven't seen these alex/tonedcointrader coins before,,,,, but i've seen similar looking coins go to $4k before on hc. would love to know how you know these are AT and those toners on HC which look almost identical (to me at least) are NT.... please advise, what distinct and easily identified attribute on this coin makes it stand out as AT ??

Sadly, I remember those two coins very well.

 

That is a very good question, and one I cannot answer.

FWIW, my recollection of the situation around these coins is that the person who did it admitted it.

 

Well, I say this is NT and want to add this to the thread for your review:

PCGS MS66, bought in May of this year from a dealer at the Nashville show:

$1,750, another pure guess 'cause I don't have a clue other than I like it a lot.

 

Catbert, that is an extremely nice coin.

My guess is that you paid $2000 for it.

Approximately $800 over PCGS retail price.

I know you don't have to, but I asked you to, for my own (and hopefully other's) edification.

I have no idea how hard it would be or would not be to duplicate a textile toned coin. I do know that I can't, and I am not aware of a single instance of an AT example of this coin. The certainly doesn't mean there isn't one.
