Dang, all the low twenties are taken; I'll go $23. I don't know what the toning premium might add to this coin's basal value. Off topic, but the foam behind the obv. looks like footprints in the snow; threw me for a second (either a funky tablecloth or an awfully big Lincoln.)
I believe it's one of those non slip foam materials for your cubboard or under your seat cushion, but i may be wrong...
btw RLM... if you get that one certified and it clears in ms64.... pm me, I'd love to have it. It's stunning imo and once again, you've managed to produce a wonderful coin and demonstrate your ability to see value in a coin of the 'bay..... you and kyrpton have excellent 'raw' eyes. He posted a morg he picked up recently raw,, I'd be interested to see how that one and this one grade out.... anyway, that's a brilliant woody.
While I appreciate you compliments, a) I won't be selling that coin and b) it does not pay to certify $40 coins - although I might reconsider for this one if I could avoid the shipping costs.
$1,000,000 for the next coin.....you have heard of checking in the dark (poker) well I am guessing in the dark
RLM, would you or anyone like to estimate what the toning premium might be for that cent for those of us who don't collect Lincolns?
As best I can stab at it, I think I probably paid a couple bucks more than most go for, but it is kind of hard to compare raw coins from eBay pictures. I might have paid a bit less than the going rate. Whichever, it was minimal either way.
Now I'm not sure what to make of your answer: is there not much of a premium for toning on Lincolns? Or is this just an average toning pattern and other (more rainbow) kinds would fetch higher premiums? Would this one fetch more (beyond its FMV, that is) if it were slabbed? I really don't know anything about toned Lincolns or "wood." I'm sure this coin is darker and richer in hand than in the photos. Thanks.
As I have said several time, my experience with woodies is that they usually decrease the coins value. With the purple on this one, I would guess it might get a premium if it were slabbed. Now rainbow toned Lincolns (must be slabbed) can command dramatic premiums. Just look at post 1058 in this thread.
