Since they were home from the bank for a weekend visit, and since several members asked for pictures when I posted my intro thread, I thought I'd try to photograph my complete ASE collection. Disclaimer: my photography skills are non-existent, and the best backdrop I have is my pool table. Also it's not the brightest of days here so the flash and/or artificial lighting were necessary. First the individual proofs from 1986 - 2010 (minus 2009 of course). All in their original mint packaging with COAs etc: The 1995 10th Anniversary set... ...with the rare 1995-W. Any marks that you see are lint and/or minor scratches on the holder. The coin itself is stunning. Unfortunately it photographs better without the flash, but it just wasn't possible on a dingy New England day: The 2006 Anniversary set, again a real pain to photograph with the flash on:
Next the 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2008 Rev 2007 burnished coins: Here I tried to show the 2008 (left) and 2008 Rev 2007 in more detail. Note the bowl shaped "U" on the error coin, and the different shape of the ~ tilde: To complete the collection of every ASE ever minted, I also have the 1986 - 2010 bullion coins in MS69. Figured nobody needed to see a bunch of bullion ASEs though, and my patience was running thin! This was a fun set to collect. Hope sombody enjoys the photos
Thanks! About that DC 2009 proof. Yeah. Maybe I can get a package deal with a fake Rolex and some genuine gold plated 100 mil AGEs? :rollling:
Speedie, I'm blown away...you must be VERY proud to own such a wonderful and complete set. Thanks for sharing! Were you lucky enough to be able to complete most of the set through purchasing directly from the mint? -LTB
wonderful collection. Have you determined a market value for the collection ? I'd be interested to know what you came up with, if you had.
Thank-you for your very kind words. There are only 30,125 possible complete sets with the 1995-W, and given how many of those have been slabbed I'd guesstimate around the 25,000 mark that are possible in their original Mint packaging. So yes, I am very proud of this set, and it's nice to see them all together once in a while. I wish I could keep them at home all the time, but I don't think I'd sleep too well Unfortunately I've only lived in the U.S. for 10 years as I'm originally from England (don't worry, I signed the guestbook on the way in!) and only became interested in numismatics a couple of years ago. The 2010 proof is the sole one that came direct from the Mint and the rest were acquired painstakingly one at a time through dealers and online auctions. On the bright side at least Bing cashback was running when I bought the 1995 set! I rejected a couple of single proofs along the way for toning, but in general I was very lucky for having bought them on the strength of a couple of photos.
For everything, the individual proofs, the two anniversary sets, the burnished coins (with error), and the 25 certified bullion coins, I'd hazard a guess at the $9,000 area. Put another way, enough that I'm happy to be unmarried so that I don't have to justify it LOL.
Cool set. It's been interesting watching the price of the 95W set over the years. They went as high as 8 or 9K at one point. Later the price really fell to about 5 or so. Not sure what it would bring today with the price of gold.
Impressive collection and quite an accomplishent on your part. That '95 set is most beautiful indeed.
Ah yes, the mint brochure for that set. Oh for a time machine! The most recent sales on Ebay, all completed in the last 10 days, averaged $5,817 for the set. That was dragged down by a slight anomaly where one set only fetched $5,438 - the seller forgot to include the word "Eagle" in the item title which I think had a lot to do with it. Expensive mistake given that it would have excluded the listing from many people's searches. I'm a little surprised that this set hasn't moved much in the last few months. Even as gold has gone from $1,100 in March to $1,400+ in December, and the set contains 1.85oz of gold proofs, it has barely ticked upwards.
Stunning collection! I love ASE's. Also I have never seen the 1995 five coin set ... that's impressive! ... thanks for posting. Am i reading the flyer right ... the five coin set cost $999 ... wow that was a bargain given todays prices! I have the complete 25 coin set of bullion coins in an album ... it is fun to open it up and look at them ... i often think what was happening in my life each year. Twenty five years is a long time! I hope this series goes on for a long time.
