Just tried too.. lol. but your right,, can't find anything comparable.. there are a few what I'd call nicer one's and a couple that could be nice but have poor pics so can't say for sure if they'd match up... in all cases the sellers had minimum's of ~125 to 250 on them, none with bids. Saw one proof with a toned reverse that had a poor pic and probably looks great in hand, the mirrors really give the color liquidity and glow from what I've seen.... it was listed at 149..... hummmmm................

Anyway, I can say I've seen eye poppers like yours on the 'bay before that have gone off at half of what you've listed.... but I watch a lot of actions on the 'bay, and have for years,,, so frequency of these sightings sometimes blurs... in any case, to my statement,,,, I can't support it with a 1 to 1 right now as I see nothing there 'now',, and as you say, what I do see is likely not as nice as yours. (with the possible exception of that proof)..... hummmm.........

If in your original statement you had said 1/2 of what I paid, I would not have responded. But you didn't, you said 1/10th and 1/5th of what I paid which is not realistic at all. I paid what I consider a full retail price for the coin. If I auctioned it today, I would expect that it would sell for between $150-$200.

 

Yeah,, a bit of an overstatment... I have seen plenty of these go off at $30 to 60 in my time..... and some where simply beautful imo,,, close to yours. But that's from memory only,,, could have been back in 1998.... or last year, couldn't tell you.. My guess is that if you gave yourself a year you could find one similar for ~100,, and if you sacrificed a bit of quality for variety you could probably pick a 2 or 3 nice one's up for the same 100.

I will say it sold for PCGS Price Guide $5,100. I have no idea whether collectors of proof trade dollars would pay a premium for toning. My guess is that they covet original surfaces above all else and would appreciate a toned coin as long as they could determine that it wasn't secondary.

 

It seems when you get up in the lofty coins range the premiums are less as there are certainly less buyers so I'm going $6,500

That is one heck of a coin, but I have no idea what the FMV of it is. A stab in the dark - $6000.

 

That's a real beauty! I like Trade $s but don't own one; am waiting until I can afford a nice MS (maybe even a toner ).

You didn't say when it was purchased; I have the impression from brief research that they are up recently. $5,000.

I'll venture a guess and say $5,570.00 I can't determine the difference between this 64 cameo and a 65 cameo. If I were to grade this piece I would give it 65 all day long. A fairly common date but it's one heck of a coin.

There's really nothing common about it, there are about 20 cameo pieces for this date. It came from an old fatty holder, so yes I believe it deserves a PR65CAM* if I sent it in again it might upgrade.


RLM got it. I paid $6,000 for it in Baltimore 2 years ago.

 

I think you might have a good shot at a 65, but you need better eyes than mine to support my speculation.

 

Proof coinage of this time period is generally graded (and valued) by hairlines, which cannot be judged well form the given set of photographs.

That said, I'll guess they are about right for the 64 grade and guess $6k.

 

OK! You want a woodie, try this one. It is raw, but I guessed 64 RB and I think I was correct or maybe 1 too low. I just received it from an eBay BIN.

FWIW, NGC price guide lists 64 RB as $42, but this coin was raw.

 

Raw on eBay? I'll guess $19.95.
