I am a sucker for seated ladies. And even more so for the 1853 rays and arrows.... I bought this one from @CircCam several years back and it remains as a permanent fixture on my desk at work. Just something about the reddish hue that this one has acquired over the years makes it especially appealing to me. Enjoy and if you have any 1853 A&R seated ladies, please add them to the thread.
They have all been dipped, but they are Mint State. This quarter is an MS-61. I had hoped for better, but could not locate it. The Half Dollar The mintages on these coins were high because the government felt that it had to replace what was in circulation because it melted for more than its face value. The dies were pushed to the limit as a result. Oddly 19th century collectors didn't save that many of them so the Mint State pieces are scarce.
@Randy Abercrombie That's a nice one Randy and since Christmas is in 23 days I’ll PM you with my address.
I'm with you, Randy, rays rock. Since I don't have any I'll post a couple Wrays instead, for you and Corgi.
Even though the design may be busy, I always liked how the rays make the reverse pop. I even like how the mintmark is a little messy when it overlaps the rays. It's also one of those types that is easy for new collectors to see as being a noticeably different variety and cheap enough to buy one. I remember buying a quarter when I was a YN decades ago.
