What are your 1: Most common 2: makes you the happiest :smile non US coins find in rolls (excluding silver, of course)? Mine are: 1: 5 pence coins found in dime rolls 2: Half Swiss Franc coins (found 2 so far)
Most common probably depends on what rolls you most commonly search, so if you never search one cent (penny) rolls, you are not likely to find Canadian one cent coins, which may well be the most common coin found in the US. In the US and anywhere near the US/Candian border and due to the similar size of both nations: one, five, ten and twenty-five cent coins, we may find Canadian cents to be the most common in rolls of US coins on the US side of the border and the reverse on the Canadian sidefor roll searchers. For me: 1. Canadian one cent coins 2. Canadian (the larger the denomination the greater the happiness) === In the past year, I have found plenty of other nations coins both in circulation and while roll searching: Czech, Panama, Guatemala, Cayman, English.
Which is why I was surprised that I have found more 5 Pence pieces than Canadian dimes (even though I am in NYC)
In our area we have MANY more foreign tourist than less visited areas of the country. Such visitors are likely to (or are in greater degrees of probability going to) pass off their coins in circulation that later are found by residents here who then end up depositing them in customer wrapped coin rolls deposited at our local banks.
Canadian Cents seem to be the most common. But I have found Cents from Bermuda and 2c Euros from France. But I now have enough Canadian Cents to start the small cent circulated collection. I even found a 47 to go with the 47 ML that I have had for years. My area also get a lot of tourists and snow birds, so there are always some foreign coins around.
Many years ago when I was i collage and working at a pizza place I found a German 1 Mark coin in a roll of quarters.
I found a Panama quarter-balboa in change a year or so ago. (It is exactly the same size/composition as a US quarter).
most common coins i find are canadian cents from the 1960s. i have only found 1 foreign coin in circulation ever that was not canadian, and that was a 2002 5 euro cent from italy.
I once found a €2 coin (for a quarter) in change - not a bad deal, considering the exchange rate and that it was supposed to be 25¢! Commonest have to be Canadian cents, followed by dimes. I haven't got any UK coins in chahge here yet, though.
I've found enough Canadian money to start a bank there, a panama 1/4 balboa, 10 pence coin and a Spanish 5 peseta that got me into collecting them. Most of the time people leave their change at the coinstar for some reason, I got a silver Canadian dime that way!
I've recently found a 1997 Russian 10 kopek and a 1976 10 avos coin from the Portuguese controlled Macau. Those would be my most interesting
While searching nickel rolls, besides the many Canadians, I have found coins from The Bahamas, Somalia, France, The Philippines and Panama. My favorites are still the Canadian nickels; I like the Beaver design on the rev.
