I would be pretty sure it is PMD. They are formed by metal mixing on a roll mill. The odds of that forming sharp distinct lines is minuscule and forming 12+ is non-existent.
Thanks guys. I figured it wasn't going to be a woody but wanted to get your opinions. I appreciate the quick replies. Not sure about the concave or flat question. The surface is flat if that helps.
Almost look like scratches, but like rlm said their just way too clen of lines to be a mixture error... it's worth asking though!
Thank you. They are not scratches. Next thought was this may wash off if the coin were cleaned. I didn't want to do that though. I will just excuse this one as PMD, too much circulation damage to bother with this thing anyway. I appreciate the help.
Definately....I have many times. However, like Dick said, sometimes I can get them at a discount from the right dealer. I love it when they drop the price because I mention the "defect". LOL
That is s sharp coin. I am surprise both at the RB and the grade. I really doesn't look like it qualifies as RB, but rather as BN. That being said, I am having a hard time tell why it ONLY got a 65. That looks like a 66 to me unless I am missing something.
Questions about 'woodys'. So the grading services do not designate a woody at all? Like they would for a toner or eye appeal with a star? If that is correct, does that mean there really isn't any added value to it, unless someone would pay a little more becuase maybe they collect woodys?
It may have been given a 65 because it appears to have a nick on the rim on the bottom of the reverse??? Not sure hard to tell without looking directly at the coin.
If you are talking about what I am seeing, it is running exactly parallel to the wood grain. Not that it is impossible, but that would be a heck of a coincidence. Additionally, nearly every woodie I have sen is undergraded.
On the lower left side of the rim right below stem of the wheat pn the left side. It looks like it follows the grain of the rim, but it looks awfullys shinny to me a part of the wood grain... But like you said maybe the grading companies have no idea that there are colector's of woodies out there? So they assume it's unattractive and they grade accordingly...? Whatever it is i believe the coin is undergraded as well and should grade out as a 66 not a 65 not sure on the color though, seems like a toss up to me.
