In some stores where I did tech work, the stores were responsible for counting the change and then remitting payment to the owner of the machine, minus the store's commission, thus keeping the change, which they would roll themselves. It was cheaper than buying rolls from the bank. This, however, was not a CoinStar operation.

Heh. :) Come to think of it, that time I found the guy dumping silver into a CoinStar, he did jam the machine, and somebody from the customer-service counter came and pulled out a tray to clear it.

Wish I had more time to hang around the machines!

Just wanted to give you guys a heads up, I will be taking all my searched rolls of pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters back to the bank tomorrow. If any of you have holes in your albums from 1970 to now shoot me a PM and I will go through em one more time and see if I can find what you need!

Merc- The same thing happened to me. I get a box of halves every Saturday from a bank near my house. On 11/6 the box yielded some NIFC's. ON 11/13 the box had almost every coin marked as if whoever searched them was marking every single coin rather than just marking the end of the rolls. I only got 1 NIFC from that box. The following week I got a great box from that same bank (http://www.cointalk.com/showthread.php?t=10176&p=1039990&viewfull=1#post1039990).
Maybe you are due for a good one? :thumb:

I see you're in Jersey, I'm right across the river in PA... South Jersey?

My coins have been marked with purple along JFK's neck, black line behind the head, and red line behind the head. That accounts for about 85% of the marks.

Another box of halves yielded 10-40%.

I noticed the couple coins listed as silver clad blanks. I haven't seen these errors listed before and was curious what was the best way to spot these. Since it is listed as a silver clad blank, does this mean that it will still show copper on the edge like most clad coins, or will the edge be solid silver like the 65-70s?

I wasn't able to find any rolls of halves today, but one of the banks had $95 worth of loose coins instead. Upon searching the butter bucket they handed me, I found....

    2 - 1964
    1 - 1965
    2 - 1966
    5 - 1967
    2 - 1968-D
    4 - 1969-D

Not a bad day, but now I have a dilemma. The bank right beside this one says they have around $800 worth of loose halves, but the 3 times I was there before I didn't find a single silver coin. I hear them counting them out by hand in the vault when I buy them and have a sneaky suspicion that they are setting aside anything good as they count them. I wish I could come up with enough $$ to buy them out, thereby avoiding any tellers from cherrypicking, but until then I am at their mercy. =P

    BTW...
Can anyone recommend a thorough Kennedy Half resource link with pictures of most of the errors that are known? I've been to a few places here and there, but nothing even close to what is available for copper coins.

No, I'm not marking them. I don't mark coins. The ones I've been getting have been marked as such. Whomever is doing the marking doesn't seem to give a damn at all... Several marked NIFC's.

I bought my first $300 in halfs and found 6 40%. I didn't think this through though and have no idea how to get these things back to the bank or where to get empty rolls. Any advice? Lol

I recall seeing red lines on the coins...probably black too. I'm in central NJ near the beach.

The easiest way is to find a bank that has a coin counter in the lobby (that customers can use for free, open an account there with the minimum amount, and use it as your permanent dump bank.

Made my best find ever today. Not in a roll, but I change. I was at the dollar store, paying and as she is getting my change I heard the sound of silver, and I thought it was a half, but it was a 1959 quarter! Best $2 I've ever spent!

Well I thought I just hit the motherload, but of course I could never be that lucky. Into my 5th roll of nickels I flip over a 2004-D and see another obverse of a 2001-D. After flipping it over and over about 20 times to make sure I wasn't seeing things, I put it under my loupe and realize that there is no way it's real. There is a very, very thin cut on the inside of the rim that is hard to see with the naked eye.

Who would take the time and effort to play such a sick joke, and send it out to be circulated? Even though it would make a pretty cool keepsake, I'm still ****ed.

I'll see if I can take a good enough picture and post it. I am kinda curious about it, like is this something you can buy overseas as a gag maybe? I can't imagine it would be legal to make and sell something like this in the states.

    OK, hopefully this will do.
I have more detailed pics but you can see almost everything with this one.

Cool coin, and I don't believe there's anything illegal about doing that unless you're doing it with intent to defraud another.

2 boxes of dimes, 5 Roosies, and 1 '25 Merc. Box of nickels gave nothing notable save a '23 Buff.
