I completed a transaction with Sampson a while back that was larger than $70, and it went great. I sent him a MO, and then he sent me the coins with no problems. I had interacted with him on here and he seemed like a trustworthy person so I went for it. Of course, like someone else said, I only sent what I was willing to lose. I would have like to buy a lot more from him but I was only comfortable with what I sent.

Sad indeed about Sampson. Perhaps there are other issues at hand? Afterall, he hasn't posted here in awhile.....

Maybe the expression, "sometimes there's one bad apple in every bunch" made its' way to CT for its first and last transaction. I can almost bet the transaction was more about a misunderstanding- hectic life, misplaced paperwork. Perhaps, the situation will right it self with a little time thrown in.

It breaks my heart to hear that. I do hope a lot of money wasn't involved and the parties can settle the dispute. The worst thing I ever had happen was swapping where I sent things and never received anything. That happens and my biggest expense was not the postage costs, but the disillusion I felt.

It's so unfortunate, because in the short time each of us occupies a place on this planet, we cannot afford to waste any of it on pettiness or dishonesty. IMHO

I really hope Sunflower is right, that it is a mistake that will be corrected.

Of course there are some of us that don't deal with credit - for years my only options have been check/cash/money order. After a long time I did open a paypal account for business reasons but hardly ever use it and I don't think I've ever used it for coins.

Paypal is NOT any more safe than a money order. I would say in some ways it is much less safe.

I always use a paypal credit card to make a purchase, not my paypal account. I thought the PayPal credit card enabled you to dispute the transaction ?

Do you have your bank account connected to your Paypal?

Not sure this is the case. I have a paypal debit card linked to my checking and was overcharged making a purchase. I called paypal and they handled it immediately. I have had similar occurances with my bank and had to do a little more jumpin through hoops to get the charges reversed. Paypal credit should be covered the same as any credit card. Paypal gift I would assume is another story.

From what he told me, he sent it and I never got it. He said he insured it, but never followed up and has stopped returning my emails after I told him to put in a claim, get the cash, and send me 2 rolls of 40%'ers he owed me... he never responded.

I am not sure what makes you say that. From what I can read, you pretty much have the same protection using PayPal as you have using a CC. The only problem (only applicable for non-eBay purchases) is the recovery of funds may be a problem. For those cases, you get a second level of protection when you use a CC through PayPAl.

Peter, no I do not. When I needed to back up the PayPal account, I opened a PayPal credit card (Citi-Bank ?) instead. Although, I have transfered funds to my bank and made payments on the credit card from my bank, that is the only connection I have.

There are "Trade" systems out there for forums, I know one forum I used to frequent uses one.

The only times I've ever been ripped off online is when I've used Paypal. And, no, they did not stand behind me even though I filed cases each time and they ruled in my favor, they never refunded the money. And, that's probably as much as I should say about it because Ebay/Paypal has used intimidation against me before to get me to remove threads from this forum and I can't afford to have them freeze my accounts with them again.

There's a reason most people hate paypal.

Now Peter, I understand if you can not get into details with what this question states.

But, how in God's name did they use intimidation against you over things you own? I'm well aware that the intimidation of which you speak would be account's being frozen or suspended, but how did they find the threads that you are speaking of, and how is that even a legal thing to do?

Let's say there is a teacher. One student constantly criticizes her for his/her wrong doings, and other's agree. The teacher then hears about this and then forces the student to stop by intimidation. (This meaning, giving 0's instead of the grade he/she deserves.)

In a way this is the same situation. You've worked hard for, and own this forum. This is yours, and you can shut it down at any minute. Now because you said, or your members had said bad things, eBay has forced you to remove the threads? They are a third party, they have no power over this forum, and they cannot shut it down. So they used something very petty against you, freezing accounts until their "good" name was cleared on your forum.

    Peter, that is absolute BS.

How did they find out about things that happen on this forum, and why are their claims against you any more valid over claims that you and your members make about them?

You are crazy or maybe just really badly informed. I have been covered by paypal for several transactions gone bad. I also have had an unscrupulous lessee try to recover security deposit to no avail. I swear by PayPal
