    This went for well below my max bid and I am sure a lot of bidder were scared off becuase the coin was raw but I could tell it was a nice NT textile toner ever by the subpar pictures. This one will be off to NGC next week and then right into the keeper box :3dancingsmiley;

I was thinking around $800 but you are certainly in the ballpark as far as the value...doesn't really matter if it goes MS63 or MS64...but it should get a star.......lol we shall see as NGC is nutty with the star sometime.

No brainer NT textile toner, and a nice one too. Congrats Shane.

Not sure what knowledge is necessary here -- perhaps knowledge to identify a coin that looks like this with poor photos -- as even a neophyte like me can recognize that's an NT textile toner.

    Link to the auction?

Put me in the MS63+ star camp as well. This is yet another example of why I can never completely ignore e-bay, even if good finds like these are few and far between! Great pickup!!

Yes that's a good point and one I left out.....the title didn't say textile so I probably wouldn't have caught the auction if I hadn't been bidding on some graded coins he was selling and it wasn't a great image of the coin but good enough to know it was a textile toner.

    Thanks for the link.

Although even the seller's poor photos hint at what the coin is, you certainly found the needle in the haystack with that one! Heck of a coin. Congrats.

Sweet toner! I am think it will go 64, no star, due to the carbon spot on the cheek.

UNC Details due to the damage on the cheek. Unless it is an optical illusion.

Wow, you could tell how nice that is, even with the crappy photos from the seller

I wouldn't have touched that with ten foot pole with those photos.
Always a little skeptical buying things raw, and toned on the bay.

Your photos really show it how it was meant to be Shane! Great job!

Yeah, those E-Bay photos are a little scary to say the least. My issue would have been why another dealer would not have it graded. I would have assumed that it already body bagged and not bid on it. Shane deserves credit for this one. He had the biggest balls and is going to get the payday. Congrats Shane!

    Great Photo and Purchase

Great picture. I can never get mine that good.

Couple years back I bought a couple 1984 olympic coins from a person on ebay. One Silver and One Gold no picture included with the auction....I paid under gold spot for both. I was happy and wanted the gold coin. When I received, the person had pulled the coins from Original Mint Packaging and put the coins into a box with some kind of liner with holes cut for the plastic holders. Somewhere along the way, the plastic holder on the silver coin had cracked. Below is a picture (best I could do anyway...blue toning gets lost though)...now it is one of my favorite coins in my collection.

Should I have it slabbed? Is that a better way to preserve versus the new air tight I put it in? Probably PR67 or PR68

I think it looks fine in an airtiight and would only consider certification if I were planning to sell the coin and wanted to maximize my profits. :)

Are you talking about the bag marks or the spot? I don't believe either will keep it out of a numbered hlder but I wanted to clarify what damage you think you see....

I was referring to the spot that looks like a indentation near Libertys mouth. Again, it may just be an optical illusion :)
