NotSure I'm sure I'm NotSure

There are SOOOOO many complaints about the quality on these......SOOOO many are going back due to inadequate QC, that anyone without a subscription could very well be getting already returned ones. Many other forums, the members are just sooo upset (with images to justify their displeasure....and some of them really ARE crap), many with orders of 100, max at the time, are sending much more than 50% back. My subscription of 5 were shipped quickly, and all look great (not claiming all are 70's, but no reason to believe they wouldn't at least 69, no hazing, unsightly marks, damage, as alot have shown). The FS designations, I'll venture to say the 70's will outnumber the 69's, much like the UHR Saints did, as the flippers are just keeping the few possible 70's they screened. No desire to grade mine, as I like them in their original mint packaging, as my entire set from '86-current is (less the '09). IF I want one with a 'First Strike' designation, I'll just wait awhile, watch the pops climb, and buy one already graded (for less than the presales are listed for now....HSN has them in 70 FDI for $179 or $199.....PCGS and NGC's, by May, won't be fetching that much), and sell a few of my raw ones, still allowing me to keep a couple of the best of my 5, while having one in a FS slab. Win-win. I DID place an additional order (non subscription) to see if the returns are being sent out as soon as they are taken in, which is what I firmly believe will be happening. Should those be less than acceptable, which I foresee, they'll be going back.....joining the MANY that are already on their way back.

goldmember, if you are not looking for the Early Releases designation from NGC, you ship them in their original mint capsules.

100% safe way to acquire a "good" 2010 ASE Proof coin:

There are lot's of NGC PF69 2010 ASE's selling on eBay for less than $60. At first this may seem expensive, but the US Mint charges $45.95 + $4.95 s&h or $50.90 per coin. The cost of grading is much more than $9, so buying an already graded coin on eBay guarantees you a "Good" coin.

I received what looked to me to be several "good" coins from the US Mint, but I returned some so that I could buy the already graded coins on eBay. Having NGC /PCGS graded coins makes them much more marketable in the future, especially since there are already 57 pages on this forum where people have complained about the quality of the 2010 proofs.

Buying an already graded coin is a 100% guarantee that you will not be disappointed with the quality. Don't you agree?

In my opinion it is hard to argue with this line of thinking.

NGC PR69 ASE coins are worth less than "good" proof coins still in the original mint boxes with papers. Take them to a dealer and see what he offers you for them.

Ok tell me what your local dealer will offer you for a Mint coin vs a NGC PF69 coin? My local dealer has said that he will buy either for spot. I would not sell either coin to my local dealer.

I am the local dealer and I would only pay about $35.00 for a common slabbed proof ASE but I would pay $45 for any Proof ASE with the box and papers.

You said "common" slabbed proof, is that what you call a PR69? What would you offer for a PR70?

Common means everything but the 93, 94, 95(W), 06's, and 08 with 07 reverse. I don't play the MS69/MS70 hype, I might would pay $5.00 more for a 70 with the intent of getting rid of it fast. Bullion is bullion, your MS70 today might grade a MS69 next time and your MS69 might grade a MS70 next week. I buy and sell them all as bullion.

I'll buy all your 70s as builiion, as will 99.9% of all other people here.
Gettin' deep here!
:) I added a smiley.

IMHO. I don't know why, but I don't think your an authentic dealer based on your reactions and comments. Are you registered with the ANA? Or a NGC/PCGS appointed dealer? Do you feel you are a "dealer" because you trade on eBay? Perhaps a self appointed dealer? Curious...convince me otherwise.

Never mind, I just saw your profile, your a vest pocket dealer. Say no more.

Just what makes someone an "Authentic Dealer"? There were dealers way before the ANA and NGC/PCGS does not "appoint" dealers, they authorize them. I sell on Ebay because people like you will buy over priced bullion because somebody somewhere said it was the all powerful "MS70" and no.. I don't think that makes me a dealer. What makes me a dealer is the fact that I buy and sell Coins and currency. The same thing that makes everyone else a dealer. I claim to be a vest pocket dealer because I am in the military and I am not going to open a shop until I get out. I run my buisness out of my home and work part time at another shop just to be around the "action". I know what every "Authentic Dealer" buys and sells for around my area and I can assure you you would find the same answer at all the shops in my area. I also have no reason or desire to convice you of anything, I don't even like you...

Good dealers are not as curt with their replies. They know not to respond this way from years of experience handling customers. You can sense the chip on your shoulder and short fuse in your statements. Like most younger people, you probably have been looked down at a bit, because of your age. Time will mellow your approach with people. Until then.....

12/06, finally got confirmation from the Mint on my return of 5 units. Took a week to get that confirmation, now just waiting for my refund to show up on the CC.

I followed the dialog between jhinton and salty sam with interest. Here is my experience FWIW: I joined PCGS recently and sent several precious gold commems to them believing the hype that they were the best grading co. I got them back in plastic shrouds coated with lacquer. They hadn't even bothered to do a quality check on the slabbed coins after the encapsulation. I fought back, and the battle went on for quite a while. I have all the records including before and after grading photos. I haven't yet decided what to do with all the evidence but will eventually put everything out in public. For now I have decided that the best approach is in fact the advice given by Mr. Hinton. I select good coins in original mint packaging for my collection. (I should mention here that the coins which I sent to PCGS were in their OGP and capsules, and NOTHING happened to them from the late 1980's and '90s when I purchased them, to sending them in to PCGS.) I still will purchase a slab every now and then but as a collector I'm after the coin period! And I collect everything from modern cents to liberty dollars.

Most “good dealers” I know are curt with their replies to ornery people who do not like or agree with what they have been told; especially on the internet. I am not sure what type of “younger people” you have been around but I am not one of them. I was leading fire teams and squads in Iraq before I was old enough to drink, don’t recall being “looked down at a bit” much in my life. I am also one of the “go to guys” in my area and at our local coin club when people have questions and the askers are usually at least 20 years older than me. If you don’t like my opinion on something then don’t heed the advice or listen (read) what I have to say but don’t try and turn it into something it’s not. i.e. “your a vest pocket dealer. Say no more.” Or “Like most younger people”. Age does not correlate wisdom and time defiantly does not always “mellow” someone’s approach.
